froyotech wins the grand final of Insomnia against nerdRage.tf2 3-1 (2-3 Sunshine, 3-1 Product, 5-0 Snakewater, 5-0 Process).

After two and a half days of action, the two best teams met in the grand final. nerdRage.tf2 had advanced to the final by coming back in the upper final to beat froyotech 2-1, while froyotech had to survive a challenge from Reason Gaming in the lower final 2-1 to make the grand final.

nerdRage picked Sunshine to start out the series. froyotech, however, started out strongly by rolling the first round to take an early lead before nerdRage equalized with their own dominant round. The two teams then traded rounds to remain tied with about half of the map time exhausted. The fifth round ended up more back-and-forth, with nerdRage winning mid but both teams pushing each other around. froyotech ended up poised with control of mid, but were unable to push into last before the map timer ran out. Thus, the map went to overtime, where nerdRage won mid and were eventually able to get a successful push into last to secure the map 3-2.

froyotech looked to equalize the series on their pick of Product, and they started out strong with two round wins. nerdRage finally got into it by getting their own. The last round proved to be a nailbiter, with froyotech running out their clock first and barely defending against an onslaught of nerdRage players trying to complete the capture to secure the map 3-1 and tie the series up.

The two teams then looked to gain an advantage on nerdRage's pick of Snakewater. nerdRage won the first mid, but were immediately pushed out by froyotech, who attempted to push several times before finally securing the first round. They followed this up by wiping nerdRage on mid, setting themselves up for an easy push into last, and then took another strong mid and round to put themselves three rounds up with half the time time expired. nerdRage, looking for a solution, brought out a sniper and used it to win a decisive mid, but were still unable to deal with froyotech aggression, losing yet another round. With their backs to the wall, they went all out at mid, but froyotech were unstoppable, gradually pushing them back yet again and getting the final round to secure the map by the mercy rule 5-0.

On match point, froyotech had a huge advantage going into their map pick of Process. froyotech took the momentum from the previous map and won the first mid, but failed to secure their push into last, leading to a long back-and-forth round that eventually goes in froyotech's favor. nerdRage struck back by winning mid, but a few disastrous pushes gave froyotech the advantage and allowed them to take another round. nerdRage then won two straight mids, but they then lost both rounds to froyotech's superior play. With less than four minutes remaining, it was impossible for nerdRage to win, and FROYO grabbed one more round to secure the win 5-0, winning the series.

Thus, froyotech take the Insomnia55 championship, their second straight win at intercontinental tournaments and their sixth straight LAN win. They take home £4,800 as the grand prize, while nerdRage.tf2 take home a respectable £2,700.

Froyotech was so dominant on the last 3 maps, nerdRage only taking 1 point out of Froyotech. Even so, this was such an intense match.

Again, congratulations to Froyotech, the defending world champions!

Just a small error, the last sentence of paragraph 3 should say "secure the map 3-1 and tie the series up."

edit: The last paragraph should say the game finished 5-0, not 5-1.

However sad it might be to see another unforgettable tournament end, just a fantastic lan.

Great teams, great plays, great emotion, great passion, great casting, great camerawork, great replays, great memories. Bravo indeed, event beyond words...

Still... with regard to what is rumoured about mr Barton, the matchmaking update being near, I suppose you could say:

"You ain't seen nothing yet"

WHERE ARE ALL THE EU HYPE POSTERS THAT YESTERDAY WERE JUST FLOODING TFTV??

We know you're back in hiding drinking beer and wallowing in sorrow as you lose 3 of 4 I series.

Easily the best iseries though, both continents put on a show
