SideshowI actually think after this LAN that not only can banny play all three of those classes at the top level but his pocket is better than his demo and scout.
Although this is his first partial season playing soldier in invite, I believe he has the most hours on soldier which is funny considering demo and scout have been his mains.

I don't know if this applies for Aussies too but the exchange rate is pretty insane for us americans. it hurts knowing everything you buy is like twice as much in dollars

Did Ascent/Elevate beat Monster in that showmatch not too long ago?

Yeah, although it was like a year ago at this point, things have no doubt changed a lot since then. If I remember correctly, however, Ascent (or w/e they were then) actually beat Monster despite playing on Brazilian servers w/ 100 ping.
I feel like in general, both the Brazilian and Asian scenes are small enough that, most likely, their top teams won't really have the same potential to win (top 5 tho? absolutely imo) an intercontinental LAN (as opposed to the Aussie scene, where IM clearly had the potential). I would love to be proven wrong, and it doesn't mean we shouldn't have top Asian and Brazilian teams at an all-out intercontinental LAN. But that's my impression nevertheless.

Do it in Canada, it's cheapest for everyone, $1 canadian= .75 american, .5 UKpound, .67 Euros, and 1.07 aud. It's almost even for the aussies, and everyone else its less. Come to Canada, our dollar sucks.

Surely the exchange rates don't tell the full story though? I mean, for a lan you want cheap taxis, food and alcohol. The UK is for swedes very expensive right now, but those three as still cheaper there than at home.

+1 for NA lan. Easier for Australians to get to, and we've been funding 2 NA teams to go to iseries pretty consistently. No reason we can't do that with Euro teams. Also might be the chance for Monster to make it up from South America.
Hell, I'll even go.

Cheap Hotels are like $50-60 here but you probably can get an hostel or something for like 15-20$ and you can drink at 16 ;)
Also beer from 50cents onwards

Isn't the issue about an NA international lan is that there is a necessity to maintain the continuity of the i series lans?

If there was somewhere better to host it than iseries, don't you think we'd of done that years ago?

iseries (uk in general) is ridicuously expensive for everyone, but it's the only one so easy to reach, especially now that they're moving it next to the airport. same reason why gamer assembly will never become another big LAN, because it's in a shit place of france and it would end up being even more expensive travelling there.

But you can only have a drivers license at 18. I mean it makes more sense, why would you be responsible enough to stand behind the wheel of a 1+ ton car but not to drink a few beers?
Also you can buy beer cheap as fuck, cheapest is like 90cents/liter. I prefer wine tho.

Every time this comes up it comes back to the same few issues.
Find us an event with:
Infrastructure
Security
Prize pools
Staff willing to help production
Good travel options
Good accommodation options
etc
There are a million more things that Multiplay does well that I don't think you'll find anywhere outside of something like dreamhack. There are always problems (for example at i55 they ran out of IP addresses at the venue meaning that no one on production, ryb and about half of froyotech didn't have internet until early on Friday) but no event will ever be 100% problem free. Multiplay are also really accommodating towards TF2 because they trust us to do a good enough job of running TF2 at their event whereas they have much tighter control on the other games. They aren't perfect, but they're a hell of a lot better than anything else out there and we have a good relationship with them.

It would actually be fantastic to have an NA intercontinental LAN, but GXL is too soon after the i-series imo. If we were to ever push for 2 intercontinental LANs per year, they'd have to be separated by at least 4 months I think. Enough time for the scene to repair the damage to its wallet and get hyped for another huge event.
Bearing in mind that MM is coming out soon perhaps it would be wasted effort to try and get something solid for this year - for that LAN and for i58 we won't even be playing this version of 6s! Assuming valve don't fuck everything up :D

Is the general consensus that we'll follow valve in whatever they decide for 6s?

If we don't then we're going to be even smaller than we are now (due to half the people leaving to play valveMM) AND we're not going to be the main way to play competitive TF2. We'll have no fresh people coming in, no money, no coverage and it'll be a slow decline.
I don't expect people to move instantly, which is why I think moving the whitelists more and more open is a good idea - and we potentially have like a season or so to play something in-between and adapt? But overall yeah we have to roll with whatever valve give us or we're dead.
Good news is we can actually give direct feedback and balance changes based on our format, and we can have the leagues run a similar but not identical ruleset if we think something is truly bust (small changes between MM and leagues exist almost everywhere, so long as the basic premise is the same).

I think Valve would like to see comp have no whitelist but thankfully they understand that some weapons need to be changed for that to happen, The only thing I would be worried about whitelisting if valve is serious about making this game competitive and balancing weapons are ones that are bad concepts like the short circuit.
Also even if MM doesn't have class limits I think we should try to maintain them as no one wants to watch the 4 demo/2 med or 3 demo/3 med spam war that no one wins and takes for ever

best thing you can do is if valve does something that results in broken shit in matchmaking, jump into mm queue and abuse the shit out of it until they tweak it.

There's one fairly big problem with that though - if there was a meta that developed in CL0 TF2 that included 4 demos or whatever, then you can't run it in the leagues. Those kind of differences should be the critical ones that we try to avoid - in essence someone should be able to jump from MM into league play without any trouble at all. On the surface they should appear to be the same.
