How will tf.tv react to matchmacking? We have to ensure that matchmaking, does not diverge players from tf2. If matchmaking comes out it doesn't mean tf2 comp is saved. First of all it might be only highlander? Will 6s players still stick to 6s and split the community? Will both happen? Will highlander matchmaking eventually lead to players trying 6s and everything will be ok? Even though we cant answer these questions I think we still need to prepare matchmaking. We have to ensure players understand competitive tf2. I remember when I joined comp tf2 I was very confused it took me like a solid 4 months to realize what mge was. While when i started csgo, with r/globaloffensive youtubers like warowl I quickly learned the game. thoughts? also how is muma in invite????
I'm pretty sure 6s will be in matchmaking and not just only hl
Valve supports all classes and 6s would not have all classes so it would be unfair. Also in 6s valve would have no way of controlling of classing and if they don't control classes in 6s you would have the 1 demo 1 heavy 1 engi 1spy 1 sniper 1 scout teams which would also not be fine.
squid_squad_boy_60-nine if they don't control classes in 6s you would have the 1 demo 1 heavy 1 engi 1spy 1 sniper 1 scout teams which would also not be fine.
why would that not be fine? people will eventually realize why cookie cutter classes are run and will play them if they want to win

While it's not 100% confirmed, it's at least in the game files at the moment that both 6s and 9s will be supported in matchmaking. If you're using a HUD that's updated for the matchmaking lobby, you can see this in the dropdown:

A safety measure, if it's really actually needed, would be to redirect new visitors to a specific thread/article/whatever specifically concerning matchmaking, and from there on they can explore the rest of the website.

It's hard to answer what you're asking in regards of "will tf.tv prepare for MM" or that we need to "prepare". You seem to think that this preparation is being able to help new players out, so it's hard to say. In CSGO, new players or players would generally youtube or google up guides and help(such as warowl you stated) to learn. I guess it would be the same for TF2 as tons of people with great tf2 helping content such as SLIN or other popular TF2 youtube channels will do the same. As for TF.TV's role, this site/forums has always been somewhat of a good central place for competitive TF2, but remember that most of the people that go here are already experienced TF2ers/ESEA and a decent amount that aren't those people are here to ask questions and etc.
I think one thing that could happen is TF2 youtubers like Slin and others that make guides or help new players tell them a little about TF.TV to direct them here if they have any questions concerning configs, hardware, or tf2 in general. Maybe it's possible(but maybe won't be as organized?) if we open a subforum meant for new players that need help and we have it on the front page saying "New player? Click here to ask for help!" and they can make threads on any questions they have. The bad thing is that it may make other subforums like TF2 General Discussion or Q/A Help not used anymore. Or we could have the front page say "New player? Click one of these that suits your needs" and it could direct link them to the correct subforum. Overall, I think TF.TV will do well for when MM comes out, it can adapt easily.
It'd be amazing though to see a big TF2 mega video over basic settings that need/could be used(like hitsounds and dmg numbers), concepts and basics of comp TF2 in 6v6 and highlander), available sites/resources that the TF2 community has to offer, and etc. Something like how Purge has his own "Welcome to Dota, you suck" guide for Dota 2., something new players can watch and learn a lot from.

seconding the guides. a quick glance at comp.tf's configs article shows a really barren picture (and a heavily outdated one, too; why are chris' and m0re's configs still shown, when they're effectively worse all-around compared to newer configs?), when configs are incredibly important for how a lot of competitive TF2 players currently play. tagg had a good video on basic console commands, but it never really went beyond a single video, which is a shame
mid-to-high is going to get mixed up quite a lot for the first year+ after MM comes, but for immediate preparation it's a much better idea to just make sure new players are fully and easily informed. at the end of the day, any potential clusterfucks from new players will come from ignorance, not malice

We need to familiarize the newbies with the magic of fov_desired 90
really, that's the least of the worries in terms of basic explanation. how many of these players even know how to open up console? it's not like any of this is really well-explained enough to where a complete F2P could instantly understand, you either just find out on your own by experimenting or you have someone tell you, and that's not a good thing when a large majority of these basic configs are so important that you'd be playing worse by not using them.
admittedly, a lot of this might sound like I'm talking about complete idiots, but... well, it's not the nicest term, but I kind of am. TF2 could be any one of these players' first online games they've ever played, period, and that means they will know absolutely nothing about what you're supposed to do. if you want to make sure you never have to deal with them on their ignorant side, streamline the fuck out of as much as you possibly can until you're only left with easily-digestible, but still fluent and in-depth info

Valve REALLY needs to update the TF2 default settings.
ScrewballValve REALLY needs to update the TF2 default settings.
piggybacking on that, it would be really nice if pub players had super ez access to fps config within the game's settings so they can improve their fps as well and not just "set everything in graphics to bilinnear and low"

I would hope this comes with the Performance Update, and TF2 becomes streamlined enough to get good frames without configs.

didnt devs say that they thought 9v9 was less so what they were looking for than 6v6? Didn't they say they would prefer less players in a game?
Contact ster, jerma and muselk and ask them to make a video covering basic shit.
Problem solved.

Matchmaking won't be Highlander, to be honest I don't know if it will even be 6's. Either way it depends on the leagues, lets say they make matchmaking 6's only and ETF2L stops running Highlander tournaments, current players will either stop playing or go to UGC (I think I'd rather stop than go to UGC). So community will probably decrease in size unless there is active effort put in to keep it going.
Say it isn't 6's but some hybrid, same logic applies but to ESEA/ETF2L/UGC running their 6's leagues, will they continue the competition or switch formats? So then if there is no formal competition in the 6v6 format, most teams will die, or go somewhere it's offered and continue in a marginalized fashion. Ultimately whatever format is used, it is down to the leagues to be prepared and ready to make the change, and make the big decisions that will drive the community. We come here to watch TF2, you go the leagues to play it.

Except they limit Scout and Soldier to 1, then 6v6 becomes about having a Heavy, or a Sniper? Or an Engineer when being defensive?
Or they allow more unlocks and we see Mini sentries in 6v6 again, or every classlimit is 2 so we see double heavy hold strats on last?
This community has balanced the game to our own tastes, but also taken restrictive measures in an attempt to keep it fast paced and skillful as possible. Why do you think you think we've made every classlimit 1 except for Scout/Solly? Cos they are the classes with highest skill ceiling/capabilities, aside from Demoman/Medic which are even more powerful. Highlander is an attempt to wheel in those who enjoy Payload and Pyro, get them to learn competitive and switch over to 6v6, the format's existence was nothing more than to help 6v6 grow, but some people actually prefer the format and stick to it (I am bi-partison for the record).
In the end we're just a bunch of gamers trying to create a fun, fast paced competitive game to enjoy in a video game that can be re-designed casually in a 100 different ways.

I honestly find a problem with unlocks like the rescue ranger and the wrangler in 6s, they aren't overpowered weapons, in fact they are really well balanced, but they really don't support the fast paced playstyle, and changing it will affect highlander and how that's played.

literally people are going to run dumb shit like vitasaw and 2 medic and 2 demo teams because it's retarded stuff that's restricted in comp because it works. you're going to find beggar's bazooka conch soldiers with shit-fix meds in 6s perpetually pushing and it's going to be cancer. we run cookie cutter classes because we're used to having literally everything but stock banned and that's what works with the bans but tf2 is broken there are so many ways to exploit it without weapon bans that work, especially if you're at a lower level.
