A properly trained war horse will fuck up anyone who isn't it's rider (and sometimes the rider). Trying to administer medical treatment to a war horse in the middle of battle is a terrible idea and you will die.
Also, with medieval knowledge of medicine a horse is never going to make it. It's better to off it right then and there so it doesn't suffer. But only if you have the time. Most likely if you're in a battle with other people you've got more important things to deal with.
