when i go into my motherboard bios (msi z97s sli) to try and overclock, the cpu ratio is stuck at auto. i can't click or press anything to change it.

are you sure you have an unlocked (k) cpu? could check for bios updates as well.

yes I have unlocked. I have the i5 4690k devils canyon. My bios is most likely updated but ill update again if i can

maybe try overclocking directly with the FSB? that should be the simplest way i think.
i dont really trust overclocking tools or "OC mode" in bios
