Why not skip the sound card and put the extra $30 towards a better CPU or video card?

A sound card isn't necessary unless you are looking for high quality sound. If you don't actually work with music, as in just listen to it, don't get one.

A sound card is definitely important if you're running a stereo headphones + zalmon clips or w/e mic setup. Most soundcards come with Dolby Headphone Technology that will greatly add to your headphones ability to give correct directional cue.
Sound card + headphone + mic is infinitely better than any usb headset. But if you're not going for that combo then skip the sound card. If you do decide to get a soundcard make sure you get a X-Fi soundcard.

I was going to suggest that one too but I have read the Phenom has slightly better performance in gaming. Good choice anyways.

What is this 2005? Never buy old hardware. You're just gonna end of regretting it. There's almost always newer equivalents that are better for the same price.

I have this CPU on an alternate build I did years ago- it was poop when I bought it and it's still poop now- the A6 should be fine for this budget build.
