I play scout mostly and I have a sens of about 15inches per 360 (1600dpi and 0.66 in-game sens), with no mouse accel in game or windows.
Is this too slow do you think?
I went on a DM server today and got crushed, I couldn't hit a thing, and it got me thinking about it. Should I learn to use a higher sens or stick with what feel safe and easy? I'm concerned that I won't be able to react enough against better players. Tbh, my tracking of stationary targets in tr walkway as I strafe round them isn't even that good. I have utterly crap tracking and I'm not sure how to fix it, so I guess I'm seeing sensitivity as the starting block. I tend to change sens every few weeks really.

use what feels comfortable, but you gotta stick with something to build up your muscle memory

stick with what you have and build up the muscle memory
sensitivity has almost nothing to do with how good you are unless it's like 200in/360 or .01in/360

I guess I was wondering whether it's something you get used to. So on maybe 12/360 I struggle now, but will I likely get good with it long term and am I struggling just because I'm not used to it?
edit: right, okay thanks. I'm just looking to improve my tracking as scout really. Any ideas?

Plenty of good scouts use a lower sensitivity than you, and plenty more use a similar one or higher. A friend of mine with godly aim recently changed their sensitivity significantly to something lower than you use and it took them a few hours of gameplay, if not less, to get back to the same level of accuracy. Aiming skill isn't related to sensitivity at all, so just focus on improving your aiming skill independently of whatever sensitivity you use. Choose your sensitivity based on what is most comfortable for you and what allows you to make the movements you need to in game.
How to improve tracking: practice tracking. It's pretty simple, I know it's probably not want you want to hear, but it will take time and dedication, it won't just magically get better because you changed a value in your autoexec.

fuck is 15in/360 considered slow now

^^ I don't know if it's slow. I haven't a clue. TF2 is the first game I even used a mouse for since I got a pc a few years back. I also play on a 1/2 metre x 1/2 metre chest of drawers, so space is tight.
Alright thanks.
I'm not quite sure how to improve my aiming. I know DM servers can be recommended, but I'm so much worse than the scouts (i'm trying to hit) in those servers, that I'm not learning anything because I'm dead before I have time to focus on them. Pubs I can often pound in, but I barely need to aim because smart flanking is enough, so maybe I need to just focus on tracking rather than killing.

just play the game more honestly, you get used to how you can be helpful without being a dmlord, eventually you'll improve

Sure, but I'd like to have really good dm too.
I'm only at 500 hours and getting into comp, but in 500 hours time I want to have made real progress you know.
My aim is fine for my level I guess.

I'd say it matters what mouse you're using as well. I was unable to build up any kind of consistency and muscle memory until I switched off the m100r, which was an office mouse.

I have a Pyrus Sades.
Cheapish, but it seems ok.

Keep it. A lower sens is good for scout. Just practice a lot with it. If it's still too much , revert to your old sens and gradually lower your sens by like .02 or something at a time.

Sounds like you're thinking too much about this. As people have said your best bet is to choose something that feels nice (as in, not too much of an effort to turn around, not too fast that you feel you can't control your aim) and practice with it.I've only ever switched my sensitivity twice in all my time playing tf2 and even now I sometimes feel like I'm not used to my current sensitivity.
I know it's hard to hear but it takes time and the only way to build muscle memory is to practice.

That's fine mate, thanks. I really don't mind the idea of having to practice, as long as I improve.
I just want my tracking to develop.

if you want to use the same sens between a bunch of different things like cs/tf2/ow/whatever - as a rule of thumb outside of ~25-40 cm/360 (10-17") you start restricting your versatility. scouts usually use lowish and soldier highish, but even then, iirc stark has used everything between 5-20"/360 while consistently being the best scout AND roamer in eu
so basically you are fine but there's no rule against changing it if you feel like it

a lot of aiming is a brain thing
think about tracking all the time keep your eyes on the target, try and practice how your mouse movements react to your in-game movement as well

just play mge and try to play against better players than you and take something out of every time you get destroyed, after a (long) while you'll be destroying those people and will then be good enough to get destroyed by even higher level players, rinse repeat etc

For the record, DM servers shouldn't always be about 'out-aiming everyone', or "Oh he only won because he aimed better than me"
No, look at it as a game of advantages - Health, ammo, height, position, is your enemy distracted, etc.
Try and develop good habits, such as crosshair placement when going around corners and keeping all your enemies on screen whenever possible.
Watch Mr Slin's DM server video, he goes into these points in a lot greater detail than I ever could.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBfk5PBY-Mg
I highly recommend his scout analysis videos as well.
As for actually developing your aim alone - that takes time, it won't happen overnight. Try develop a schedule, dm for 30mins to an hour, mge 30mins to an hour everyday (prefer consistency over time spent) 10mins one day will pay off just the same as long as you keep at it and keep focused. Aiming should start to feel more natural after a while to the point where you don't even have to think about it.

Still struggling a bit with this.
Was at 15.6 inch per 360 but sometimes in tr_walkway it felt like if enemies went past me close, I couldn't spin fast enough to track them, even though aiming at what was in front of me was okay.
So I ramped up my sens to 14.3 and now it feels comfortable and I can spin at a good speed, but I've lost a lot of precision. Hitting snipers that shimmy a few yards to avoid me is tough for me now. Shall I just stick with this sens and expect that I'll regain my precision in a bit of time?
Apparently Starkie plays on 17 or 20 inches or something and seems fine (fine being an epic understatement), so maybe I'm inventing an issue. Wasting so much time trying to find the perfect sens.
This is driving me nuts.

Use what your most comfortable with and work up from there, i have kinda screwed myself i use lower sense with scout/sniper/medic and higher for demo/solly its a bad habit.

It just feels like im wasting so much time switching it all the time.
Been playing with 15.1 for the last half hour and it feels fine. I might just stick with this, it's perfectly fine for a scout I assume. I just don't want to get to a higher level and then find myself struggling to track other players as they whiz past me close.

As everyone else stated there is no perfect sensitivity. As a scout main myself I picked a sens that was good for mid range fights, it allowed me to have a fairly stable crosshair at a range where i could deal around 60 damage per shot and dodge rockets fairly easily. After you picked one just start playing and thinking that you want to track all you fight, at the beginning of course you wont hit a lot but then you will get better and better, so its normal if now you aint hitting much as sniper.

If you can airstrafe and do a 180 without having to pick up your mouse youre fine. Use movement to help with crosshair placement.

I'm a scout main and use 8.7 inches per 360. It was pretty slow at first because I used to play at like 3.5, but you can get used to a sensitivity pretty quick. Honestly, as said before in the comments above, use whatever feels comfortable for you. Over time it'll become muscle memory and you won't even have to think about how much your wrist/arm is moving.

I usually pick up my mouse slightly before I turn.
or do you mean during?

Sure, I'll just pick anything that feels okay and practice on it.
