I'm enamored with all the 3D-printed TF2 figurines they have on that shelf. Makes me want to try printing a few and hand-painting them.

There's not really much else to remark on. I'm glad to hear the update is "around the corner", and I'm reassured to hear that slin has faith in the dev team.

it definitely has been reassuring to hear about the tf team from people who have visited valve (geel, b4nny, slin, etc) and hear a common consensus that they care about what htyre doing

yeah sorry i didn't really talk much about the update in the video; i told them i wouldn't talk about the specifics and we're all going to play it soon enough anyways. what i will say is that the update is SICK like i've never been more pumped about TF2 after seeing it, and as a comp TF2 streamer i'm excited to have tons of content to play through. for me i don't really care if i'm stomping in pubs or whatever, i just liked having contracts to complete and levels to play for. pugchamp does that for me with the elo system, and the matchmaking update will give the community something to play for too so look forward to that.

i'm interested to know what you guys think about rulesets and the like for the higher level comp leagues. we've been talking about this for a while, and if the valve game is different from our game, we may need to reconcile the rulesets so that people who play matchmaking are playing the same game we're playing. weapon bans have been used by the competitive community to deal with balancing issues, but we've already seen the developers making changes to the weapons in the tough break update. do you guys see ESEA / ETF2L moving towards a no-whitelist system? how long will it take for that to happen?

I don't think etf2l will ever unban certain weapons unless the principle behind them is completely changed. I imagine it's the same in esea

i think the end goal is that you don't need whitelists, but regardless of the (good) fact that valve is looking at tf2 through competitive goggles, I don't know how they're going to be able to fix every weapon to not be either incredibly game-slowing or broken/op, without turning something like that into the current state BFB.

another big problem is the disconnect between valve MM and real sixes and balancing for each. Valve is obviously going to balance for valve MM, and so it could take a long time if ever for the balance to sync up.

Either way any amount of balance changes is welcome and slin you're hypin me up quite a bit :)

MR_SLINdo you guys see ESEA / ETF2L moving towards a no-whitelist system? how long will it take for that to happen?

TF2 players as a collective bloc need to push for no limits on weapons right now.

If we don't trust valve to balance our game it will die.

Now or never!!

we've already seen the developers making changes to the weapons in the tough break update

BTW, if you need an interpreter for this statement who didn't visit valve and get told that he can't talk about the nature of the update, this means VALVE IS PAYING ATTENTION AND BALANCING WEAPONS FOR MATCHMAKING.

@MR_Slin

I figure Valve would take the same balance philosophy towards weapons and items the same way they would view heroes in dota.

There is a ranked matchmaking and a normal.

In ranked certain things are available and some "heroes" are not, and I think we will see a list of "bans", will you say, until valve can analyze gameplay statistics in matchmaking to better understand how they will change the more problematic weapons.

I'm so happy I'm finally unbanned and I can continue my productive conversation about the update prior to its arrival.

EDIT: Also knowing the way Valve did the ruleset for CSGO, I think they will try to assume all control once their ingame competitive system has enough of a playbase to warrant their intervention/control as it did in CS (Most all game companies have control over tournaments/rulesets now, contrary to what I wish)

The whitelist has gotten insanely unrestrictive in recent seasons in pretty much all regions. The ones left are a small subset of weapons that actually break the game.

We should let valve fix those weapons, but there's no reason for us to expose ourselves to a terrible whitelist because "valve will fix it, promise". If anything we've been shown that valve are often quite slow with getting around to these things, so we could easily end up with multiple terrible seasons with bad whitelists, pushing people away from the game.

It really made me happy when Slin said that they were streaming truktruk's stream on a tv in their headquarters. It's like they really do care :D

On the subject of no-whitelist, it doesn't really seem like a good idea because even if a weapon isn't overpowered in the slightest, it may make the game less fun to play (see: Booties) and considering the size of comp TF2, fun is all the majority of comp players play for.

Also, I'm not sure if I'm the only one but the idea of us changing our rulesets to suit Valve seems rather insulting considering we've been playing the game competitively for 9 years, begging Valve for comp support for a large portion of that and they've only just started listening. Valve may know how the game works under the hood, and what makes them more money, but we know how the game plays and what is more fun. They should be asking us how rulesets should work (r_drawviewmodel unlocked pls tyty)

@#20 there have been murmurs of them locking viewmodels on to show weapon skins and to not confuse new players/people who haven't played TF2 because they won't understand why popular streamers don't have guns on their screen.

i also heard murmurs of transparent viewmodels, that seems like an alright compromise. As much as a love r_drawviewmodel 0, it is important that the game is understandable and visually appealing to the outisder.

transparent viewmodel is still disctracting, id go with no viewmodels any day over transparent viewmodels

Is having a viewmodel on such a funkiller that its worth fighting over

There are certain weapons that impact the competitive experience too much for me to enjoy the product and I hope those are changed as they're used, but view models? Even if you've played with them off for years its not that big of an adjustment or a concession.

anyone who doesnt like viewmodels would, but would you rather have opaque or transparent viewmodels? because if valve do remove the option for no viewmodels, it's probably going to be one or the other.

Why though? Is it really so important to make the game appealing to viewers that we're willing to downgrade the experience for the players? I'm not sure I'm willing to give up no viewmodels just so b4nnys viewers can understand whats going on.
