After the success of the NHL playoff thread, I figure we should keep the talk alive!

Drafts a couple weeks away, as is UFA, should be exciting!

Anyone have thoughts on the Teravainen trade? I understand getting rid of Bickell's contract but that's a high price to pay.

Datsyuk finally hanging up his NHL skates :(

not a day I really wanted to see coming, but I'd imagine wings fans would be even more bummed out. arguably and, imo, the best hands the game has ever seen

That was probably the filthiest. He was insane though, incredible leader, incredible hands and offensive talent, and also a very reliable guy in his own zone. You dont find many players as complete as Pavel

The Teravainen trade isn't that bad, especially since they have Panarin who is what Teuvo might be in 3 years.

Curious who you need to protect? General fanager made an expansion tool. Some teams are in a tough spot, fortunately my canucks dont have anyone worth noting we can protect

IMO, Weber is an upgrade from Subban. Subban might be better offensively but having such a huge player on defense pays for itself on the scoreboard.

Larsson for Hall is a WTF moment. Why couldn't the Flyers get that lucky. We have at least 3 guys we could have traded for Hall

As a montreal fan, it hit me hard losing Subban but I know that overall the play will probably keep us okay for a few seasons. The downsides (besides the fact that he promised and will still honour a longterm donation of $10 million to montreal charity, hospital I think) being his huge public image will hurt the fanbase hard for a while, the slightly lessened PP (weber is very good at the PP as well but subban MADE goals even though weber can score them) and you have the franchise skater gone just like that. Weber is good short term, but he's signed for 10 years on his contract. That's not good in the long run, and subban would've been better since he's getting into peak form.

That long run is the problem, though. Montreal's window is closing; with weber aging and price having a few years tops of being the best goaltender on the planet, they need to do something NOW. There isn't much of a future for montreal past that unless gallagher and galchenyuk can turn into superstars. I like the Shaw pickup, though. That was good.

The Hall trade was ridiculous, though. You just lost someone developing into a superstar, an olympic player (for canada no less) and your franchise player who would've done HUGE work with mcdavid for years to come for a good defensive prospect. Absolute LARSONy. Ha.

also even as a montreal fan I would've loved to see stamkos in toronto, would've helped the franchise in more ways than one but the tax hit up here compared to american teams would've made that really hard

P.S. Fairly certain based on old incidents and whatnot that subban had issues with the management, specifically therrien. Seriously, why is he not out yet (and bergevin at this point)? One could say that Price has saved him his job hardcore, but it's impossible to ignore how awfully you've coached a pretty alright team. Even without price, the team is solid enough to make playoffs.

This would be true in the year 2012 when the Flyers' sent that abominable offersheet for Weber.

Weber wasn't even the best defenseman on the Nashville Predators last year. Roman Josi did the heavy lifting on that pairing and helped minimize the effect of Weber's decline. Weber was garbo in the playoffs this year and looked slow and average defensively. Then you consider that Weber is already 31 and signed till he's 40 and its super easy to understand why Habs' fans are on suicide watch. Subban is currently the superior player both defensively and offensively and he's 4 years younger.

I doubt Subban and Josi will play together at even strength but they'll be a treat to watch on the PP. Weber is gonna be exposed playing with Nathan Beaulieu or an ancient Andrei Markov.

Bold predictions:
- Florida is going to make top 4 in playoffs
- Blues will barely make playoffs and begin their spiral down--I think this offseason just stopped their window of opportunity
- Montreal will be irrelevant in a couple of years if price tones down even a little bit (probably not bold, seems obvious)
- Devils will make a surprise run in playoffs, possibly a la Brodeur 2012 playoffs?
- Toronto will kill their playoff devils and make the second round

i focused a lot on eastern, I think this offseason is where the east will rise above the west and that the metro division will be the new dominant division

I don't see St. Louis window closing. Teams too young and young talent is developing. I look for Rattie, Jaskin, Fabbri etc to take steps forward. Coupled with a good core of Pietro Allen Tarasenko and Schwartz, I think they'll be OK.

The problem with PK for Weber is age, Weber is comparable to PK just 3 years older and 3 years worse. That's why it's insane. Yeah, Weber may still be capable of being a #1 guy just PK will be doing it for longer, and just as good.

Anyone looking for a jersey? Ice jerseys (super reputable) is running $1 customization for 48 hours, so basically get a customized jersey for the cost of a blank. It's their pro customization which is apparently incredibly accurate

Trying to decide if I want a Hutton or a Horvat.
