When I was in 6th grade, we were learning about Mesopotamia and we learned that a scribe means writer. So I used the alias murkscribe which also means ooze writer for mine craft, and I stuck with that name ever since.

ReeroAs a baby I loved basketball. I never could pronounce "bball" so I said "reero", and the nickname stuck to me within my family.

I thought i was the only one with something similar to that, my best friend's little brother couldn't spell my surname and called me "fefor" everytime, so my friend started calling me like that as a joke but eventually everybody on school would do the same so i sticked to it, this was 11 years ago

saamcookiejakesince i told everyone that my real name was jake because it was what i was used to being called for so long.i've never felt like more of an asshole than when i showed up at your dorm room for gxl and said i was there to pick up jake and your roomate was like "no one here is named jake"

Mildly related story: my real name is very difficult for some people to remember/pronounce, but I've never had a persistent nickname irl. So, sometimes if I meet someone I'll never really see again, like some randomer at a party, I'll just tell them to call me Differ cause it's simple, and I'll actually know to respond to it. BUT this one time, I ended up running into a person again, and I didn't really remember them, and they called me Differ. It was so weeird.

DifferI'm a math major, and when school started to actually get enjoyable for me, it was under the guidance of a wonderful calculus prof who'd become a mentor of mine. When I was in calc 2, I was also in a field research class and realized that a problem we were having with developing an experiment could basically be solved with an optimization problem, only with multiple independent variables. This is a calc 4 concept, but my mentor helped me get started on learning it on my own and showed a lot of faith in my ability. It was really empowering, so the gradient vector and calculus in general hold a really special place in my heart.

Hence, Differ ∇ = Differ-Del = just a vague nod to calculus and particularly, the gradient vector. :)

did u just say math is empowering

It wasn't the math that was empowering. It was feeling like I was good at something, getting the motivation/tools to independently learn shit that interested me, and having a professor I respected really believe in me.
