I still don't see why they had to shoot SIX times though... Something isn't right about that imo. I mean even if he was going for a gun, why is shooting him the first thing they do? They couldn't of used anything else to stop him? They already had him pinned on the ground, even if he was going for his gun, he wasn't going to get very far in that position. Like the guy in the reddit post said, I don't think they intentionally were like "Heh lets murder dis guy >:D", I think the situation just escalated to something it shouldn't have.
Have you ever tried restraining anyone before? It is really fucking hard and i only had to restrain a young girl imagine a grown man. Even when they are on the ground they still have plenty of strength to do something, my uncle had bullet whiz past his head because he thought he had restrained someone effectively enough.
But he was clearly on his fucking back how could they not have put cuffs on him???
again i had to restrain someone because they were trying to hurt themselves and i had to restrain them to a bed, speaking from experience just because they are on the ground doesnt mean they cant act. People are strong especially when that adrenaline is going.

Fair point I guess, but I still don't think shooting him six times was the first viable option they had.

marmadukeGRYLLSSpaceCadetWhy would anyone carry a concelaed gun and then have an "altercation" with police?
I wonder if he even had a License to Carry a concealed firearm. Hopefully that part can come out at some point.
edit... After doing some reading and seeing his past criminal record, he would have never been approved for a license to carry a concealed weapon.
victim blaming a man that was just executed by two cops via SIX SHOTS at point blank range. holy SHIT dude seek help.
I did not blame the victim at all, I just asked a question as to why he or anyone would have a physical altercation with police if he knew he was carrying a concealed weapon. I think it had to do with his criminal past. They were going to find the gun and send him back to jail because of it so he fought the cops and it ended badly.

did you watch the video? he was tackled to the ground by police and his arms were restrained, there's no way he was able to grab his gun and start shooting.

Open carry of firearms in Louisiana is permitted without a permit, as long as the user is of at least 18 years of age and legally able to possess a firearm under state and federal law. Not sure how it is with concealed there but idk if they looked up his history on their phones before tazing and shooting him
He wasn't "Open Carry". That is typically done by having the gun in a holster and belt for all to see, hence Open Carry. It is 100% legal and also wasn't what this guy was doing that at all in this case.
Even if he did have a concealed carry permit, one of things they teach you in class is to let Police Officers know you are carrying a weapon. I was pulled over for speeding like 2 years ago and the officer asked for my license and registration. Before I did anything, I informed the officer of my weapon and my permit. I listened to every command he gave me and I was disarmed outside my car. He verified my license, gave me back my weapon and I paid my ticket.
I regret even commenting because my only intention was to objectively ask why you would physically fight police especially if you have an illegal weapon on your person.

But the police knew he had a weapon, it was the entire reason they were called to location in the first place. Sterling had been selling CDs outside of that convenience store -- with the owner's consent -- for something close to 6 years. The store owner said he considered Sterling a friend. The police came after a citizen called 911 and reported that a man selling CDs was threatening people with a gun outside of the convenience store. Like prime minister Blair, these officers decided to shoot before exhausting non-violent options first. One of the most tragic aspects of this story -- outside of the absolute devastation to the family and innocent slaughter of a civilian -- is that, according to the Huffington Post, Sterling didn't even actually have a gun at the time. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/alton-sterling-video_us_577d668ae4b0c590f7e7d2a7?section=
UPDATE: According to Buzzfeed, new footage has come forward that shows Sterling did have a gun; however, he was murdered before it was removed from his person. The shop owner, who watched the whole thing happen, said he believed what the officers did was murder. https://www.buzzfeed.com/claudiakoerner/new-video-shows-police-removing-gun-from-alton-sterlings-poc?utm_term=.fhw0RQqmr#.fpDlwVen4

Police treat black people differently in this country. It is really sad. Very easy to say "well, they shouldn't do that" and leave it at that, but it is a very complicated issue. It is structural and historical. The USA has a very long history of racism in LE, from the Supreme ct all the way down.
With internet video we are overturning rocks and the ugly creature of systemic racism underneath is writhing in the sunlight.

Honestly, this deserves another thread, but there was another shooting today (the aftermath caught on video).

There have been 561 police killings this year in the US: 135 of them black individuals. It's not even surprising anymore, just continually disheartening.

My experience of this doesn't come from the Internet, it comes from seeing the justice system at work. My parents represent indigent defendants for a living, and part of my line of work deals with criminal cases (usually body cam footage although most of it is more boring).

perhaps you should return to shitposting about turkish refugee immigrants you fucking FILTHY european SCUM.

Yes. Unfortunately, many of the citizens of this country are unwilling to accept the fact that this is a reality in other countries. This is a result of the systemic racism and discrimination that exists in our country. I cannot believe that people whose job is to protect and server have so little discipline and integrity.
