Seagull has a huge following on twitch. I don't know if its because Overwatch is a hyped game, or if Seagull is just that much of a likable guy. These numbers are insane

http://imgur.com/a/ZyGsv

I'm an idiot, and I feel embarrassed. But still, his viewership is very impressive. The question still stands. I didn't want to put this on over.gg because I would like to ask, what does Seagull do that makes him so popular? How can TF2 streamers even begin to amass a following as big as his? is it just because tf2 is such an old game, or do we need to advertise more, or is it simply because Blizzard is pouring money into Overwatch that Valve is not willing to compete with? Sorry to make this kind of an Overwatch vs. Tf2 thread, but I am genuinely curious what we as a tf2 community can do to grow the viewership and following of tf2 as a whole. Wether it be streamers, comp players, or just the overall player base.

5 million people is the amount of people that watched his channel, not the number who are currently watching
And I guess he's popular cause he's a nice guy and he also started playing OW when it was in beta (?)

He started streaming OW really early on and pretty consistently which definitely helped make him one of, if not the top OW streamer. Him being incredible at the game and also just a smart guy/player doesn't hurt.

Iirc summit once complained about him because he was getting wrecked by seagull on a pub. That then got posted to reddit and some people linked his twitch. Chaos ensued.

Apparently when he was playing he won a game against another popular streamer and a lot of people went to his stream after that and stayed when they realized how much of a like-able person he was.

I don't enjoy overwatch to much but I watch two overwatch streams Seagull beacuse he's a like-able person and Dummy because I like dummy

likable personality + new popular game + arguably the best player in said game = lots of viewers

I find that other than him being good / having a likeable personality, one thing that I've failed to see anyone mention is that his streams are informative. He tends to explain his thought process on his in-game decision making, why he does what he does and when to do it, which I find is a valuable aspect of any top tier gamer.

seagull is alright but sometimes he can get toxic if hes losing or if someone on the other team is shittalking him or something

i personally like gods more but seagull acts more professional in his streams and has a fairly consistent stream time i guess

Can we stop acting like none of us get mad or """'toxic""" when we're doing poorly? This is the dumbest complaint I see leveled against streamers. It's frustrating to play badly, and it's frustrating to get shittalked. I don't see why it's a problem for a streamer or YouTuber to react to being bad.

I've never seen Seag act like that. He's the last person to make excuses or act like an asshole if he's losing or being shittalked.

seagull is affable, embraces the twitch/ow memes, and is good at the game. something that I particularly like is that he tends to "thought broadcast" - he narrates the rationality and logic behind certain decisions he makes as he's playing. that's valuable insight for a newer player like me.

overwatch had a lot of money poured into advertisement (national TV, twitch ads, etc.) so the viewership is understandably inherent. I think it's clear that b4nny is basically the "seagull streamer" equivalent in regards to tf2; there is just not nearly as much tf2 viewership.

I don't think it's fair to compare seagull to banny in any way, besides the fact that they both get high viewership in their respective games. God I hate fucking idiots.

the only bad thing about seagull's streams is the torrent of dumb questions about sensitivity/improving etc that comes with being the top streamer. he's the only top streamer that doesn't overreact to things or boast about their 'skill' even though he's one of the only top streamers that could legitimately back that up

they're both talented at their respective games, are looked up to by newer players and, when they stream, essentially monopolize the viewership for said games. I'm not going to delve into comparing their "streamer" personalities.
