FireConsoleEnterimhow about making it so a locally saved jump-map is opened when you're queued up so you can have something to do while waiting but still jump out of it at any time with no consequence?
u can already do this
type "map jump_x" in console after starting queue it'll boot you when you find a game
I can't open Console when looking for a game tho :(
Are you sure? Try clicking outside of the chat box if you are queuing with a party. But otherwise just press your console button and it should pop up.

why does L4D2 at max with hundreds of zombies run much more stable than a TF2 match with 6 players on each team in viaduct?
i drop to 40 fps all the time when MM puts me there

Besides arguing "hurr tf2 buggy as shit", just inspecting the models in L4D2 using SFM unveiled some frankly amazing optimization they've done regarding animations and attachment models. I guess that's why the game's limb detachment system feels so good and performs so well. There's some really cool tech under the hood there that I haven't seen in any other Source game to date.

L4D gives you one, single model for your character, and then a model for your weapon. with TF2 you're getting up to 4 different models stuck to one character (character model, 3 cosmetics and then a visible action item like the canteen), and then your weapon model can also have dynamic skins, jigglebone-robot-heads and other pretty-looking shit which can cause optimization problems--and then in one competitive match, you're getting multiples of 12 of that total
the fact that it runs okay at all with that setup is a feat of god, though that doesn't change how it needs to be better for a competitive setting

Eh, feat of god? Compare this with a game such as battlefront 2 and the amount of animations it had.

the301stspartanEh, feat of god? Compare this with a game such as battlefront 2 and the amount of animations it had.
It's not the amount of animations, it's the number of attachments with their own sub-animations that really stress an animation system.
Animations are (mostly) easy to blend together. It's when they start multiplying exponentially that shit hits the fan. Plus TF2 has to calculate up to 32 players in the worst case scenario (MvM) - L4D2 only has to account for 4 and then NPCs, which Source is pretty good at handling.
