Coaches will have their own computer and will spectate their team like the respawn screen

Awesome news on the goal, glad to hear it :)
The computer requirement is for a couple of reasons in a way:
- it helps limit the grey area from an admin perspective (i.e. a player sat down at their computer can see fewer other computers) this would be a particular problem if facing a team sat on the next row where a player stood up could see their screens, incredibly unfair but unfortunately it would just become a game of someone's word vs another as to whether that was happening. Restricting them and using a plugin server-side might well alleviate a bit of this headache
- it'll mimic how coaches can practice online
- likely fewer issues with spectators physically getting in the way of coaches
- coaches are required to be on roster, and therefore also bound by their Steam ID to verify them as players, it's another way of trying to keep clear records and ensure no foul play (it'll also be clearer from a spectator and opponent teams POV that they are running a coach strategy if there's an extra player connected)
Ref. suggestions about between maps/freeze time - I don't see how that's any different to how it has been historically? Teams almost always walk off between maps, can talk to anyone etc. there's been nothing stopping anyone consulting a tactician between maps.

And that is what I think would be most fair. There's nothing stopping any team consulting a tactician between maps. But there is something (cost) stopping many teams from being able to field a 7th man. I feel like every team attending should at least have the opportunity to the same resources, instead of a select few who have a huge advantage over everyone else.

If Crowns could stop Nameless from using a coach because they didn't have one, how is Jasmine being unable to spend another ~$1k to bring along a 7th any different? Can Multiplay/insomnia fund the difference?
a coach does not need to be a player with low ping. Jasmine Tea could get a european player with a horrible sleeping pattern to coach on australian server without too much problem i think. It would make it a lot cheaper to get a coach to LAN.
nopeIf Crowns could stop Nameless from using a coach because they didn't have one, how is Jasmine being unable to spend another ~$1k to bring along a 7th any different? Can Multiplay/insomnia fund the difference?
because crowns couldve brought a coach if there was a rule about coaches being allowed before the LAN started
i think you guys are overestimating the impact of a coach. a coach cant micromanage and get a load of idiots with dm to play like gods. a coach just helps the team work better together - something we were definitely lacking when kaidus had to leave due to his injury.
if a coach is such a huge deal, surely you should be spending all your effort into getting an aussie coach over or getting a euro coach to commit to working with you in the month and a half you have left. then you would have the advantage over the other teams and be level with us... unless its only a big enough deal to whinge about but not enough of an advantage to actually put your effort into

Calling as a player is far more efficient and effective than doing it as a coach.
I'd like to point out that the majority of people commenting on this thread about this recent development aren't even in the team and don't necessarily reflect how we feel about it.
When we were first approached with the idea of coaches being allowed I said we were personally against it. The main issue we had with the whole thing was the short notice/cost issues, not the principle behind it. If this decision had been made months before the competition then none of this conflict would have ever arose.
That being said, I feel like this is being blown way out of proportion at this point. Once the decision had been made we were a little bummed out yes, but we were always willing to put up with the consequences. This includes not being able to afford using a coach we know and trust at the event.
We'll just install viruses on the other teams PCs or something to level the playing field anyways 8)

Geel has set up a scrap.tf donation drive for us where you can donate items instead of money! https://scrap.tf/fundraiser/TEAI58
I'll update the OP to include this new way to donate.

Only just over a week to go and just under a grand to fill out the total goal! Indiegogo takes a larger chunk if the goal hasn't been met so keep donating! I'm sure there are more dog-based things paulsen hasn't done yet

6 hours left, so if anybody was planning to donate and hasn't done it yet, do it now.
Well the Indiegogo campaign has finally ended with the community managing to raise an astonishing $5,540 USD! With the extra money given to us privately, we not only met but surpassed our goal. The generosity that the global tf2 community has shown has been truly overwhelming, and on behalf of everybody in the team I'd like to extend a very humble thank you to everyone who donated.
For those of you who ordered the VIP scrim access perk with your donation, I will be sending an email to each of you in the next day or so with the relevant instructions and mumble details in order to claim this perk.
For everyone who ordered the item signing perk, I will also be sending an email to get in contact with you. This will be carried out after i58 once the team has returned back home to Australia.
Once again, thank you to everyone so much for all the support and donations. With our flights having been booked and accommodation almost finalized, we have every intention of fulfilling our promise of making i58 one of the best competitions in TF2 history!
