The Newbie Mix Team Drive needs YOUR help*
*maybe, depending on who you are. but probably.

The NA 6v6 Newbie Mix is putting on a team drive for this upcoming season, and we want it to be as large as possible. I will be personally disappointed if any less than 10 teams get put together for this drive, and I have a personal goal of getting 16 teams full of new players into open. This would create a thriving lower end of open and make the barrier of entry much lower for people on the fence about joining ESEA.

I have faith that in this crossroads of TF2 that our tight-knit community can come together and show ESEA (and other leagues) that TF2 is alive as ever and ready to boom. Looking at the number of solid UGC teams, new Newbie Mix players, and the impressive amount of new players in mixchamp/FACEIT/matchmaking/pug groups, I have complete confidence that we can pull together a really strong team drive this season.

However, the Newbie Admins can't do this alone. We need the help of as many people as possible. Here are some volunteer positions that we need:

  • Mentors
Will be put in charge of a single team. Team mentors will help their team get their roster sorted properly, guide the newbies through the ropes of paying/playing in ESEA properly, and do demo/map reviews with their team. Every team that signs up will be getting a mentor, and we would absolutely love to have a large pool of people to choose the best-of-the-best from, so please sign up! It shouldn't take more than a couple hours a week, and a team will love you for it.
  • Data Entry Staff
This one is simple, and anyone with a bit of rep in the community can help (regardless of their in-game skill). All the signup forms need to be entered into a google doc that we have set up, and it's a very easy job if we have a handful of people on top of it.
  • Misc Staff
It would be nice to have a small group of people available in the Newbie Mix mumble at normal times for newbies to ask quick questions to. Staff will also help out with events and anything the admins can't do by themselves. This position requires a decent bit of in-game experience and community rep.
  • Ground Staff
These people will spread the word in various sub-communities. You will communicate with people directly. From pugs to Matchmaking to UGC circlejerks and everything in between, you will be recruiting as many players as you possibly can to sign up for the team drive.

To volunteer in any of these positions message Translucent Feces on tftv with a link to your ESEA page, your email (for google docs), and the thing(s) you'd like to help out with.

In order to reach my comically optimistic goal of 16 teams (about 100 new players in open), we need all the help we can get. Even if you don't want to help out in any official capacity, spread the word as much as you can! Let's do something spectacular for this game we all enjoy so much.

can you join this if you don't even do well in lobbies but want to do this for the sake of having more players in esea/are interested in getting into it in the first place?

i'd love to get better at tf2 and i feel like the best way is to have a team anyways

I would hesitate to ask you to join primarily to make ESEA thrive. That's one of the goals of the team drive as a whole, but that shouldn't be the goal of any one participant. That said, players of all skill levels are welcome in the team drive. If you want to play, sign up!

I want to help with this but I don't know if I'll have enough time to dedicate to the game in general not to mention another team :(
If there's anything I can do before the summers over I'm happy to help review demos or something for teams looking to play. Hopefully I'll get around to coaching newbie mixes at some point again.

Really, coaching newbie mixes is a pretty big deal. If we had like 5 or 6 more people willing to coach each week, the wait time for new players would go down dramatically (average wait time is ~30 minutes or so).

Aside from that, just spreading the word to any UGC players you may know would be a big deal. If 12 people that see this thread each find 2 people, we have 4 more teams in open. Every player that signs up makes a difference. Thanks!

I made this simple video talking about the team drive. If you think it might interest a friend of yours, send it to them!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME4m6GyQ0Y0

As for the status of our staff situation, we are pretty much good on data entry. What we REALLY need in the coming days is a dedicated group of ground staff that can spread the word of the team drive on various social media platforms (steam/twitter/reddit/tumblr/whatever the kids are using these days) and with their friends. Message fece (link in OP) to help out. I'd really, really appreciate it.

We have a small group of coaches so far, but it won't be enough if we meet our goals/expectations. Sign up and help out if you have some time!

Thanks

We're doing an AMA about the team drive/ competitive TF2 in general. Find it on https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/new/ so I don't get shadowbanned! Thanks!

We need a few more coaches to facilitate the number of teams we expect to get. We really appreciate any help you can give! It will make a world of difference for the newbies :)

If we are able to form our projected number of teams, we WILL need a few more mentors. PLEASE if you want to help a team out, do so! It would be a great thing for them :)
