I'm assuming they saw the "Maximum Teams: 64" on the insomnia website and rolled with it. Pretty upsetting to see such an incredible unawareness. (unless of course there are 40+ teams signed up that I somehow haven't heard about)

50% of all Mann Co store sales will go towards increasing the prize pot of i58

(In my mind,) people would go nuts seeing this sort of involvement from valve. Hell, there could even be a goal (say £5,000 for a start) that would be displayed on the Mann Co store front page.

I'd love to see this happen even for future events (take the hint valve) if financial help is going to even be in the cards in the future.

Thing is, it really is in their interest. Any growth in any aspects of TF2 benefits them surely.

Hell, they could even do stuff like bring out shitty i58 hats or something and some scrubs would buy it.
