as far as i know configs don't work on macs for whatever reason, would installing bootcamp solve this or do i just have to suffer with throttling?
most of the time i'm away from my main pc and get the urge to play a bit

If you use bootcamp it just turns into an expensive windows laptop, so configs made for windows PC's will work.
If it currently overheats while gaming, you should also get a laptop cooler.

i'm aware of that,i suppose i can use windows whenever i want to play tf2 and switchback when i'm done
i already use a cooler,it doesn't really get the job done but the frames become somewhat playable when it's throttling

I second the idea of bootcamping your Mac to Windows. I can assist in you in that if you'd like. Also the laptop cooler may reduce the temperature of your laptop it won't increase the performance. What model Mac are you using btw?

and thanks but a friend already suggested to do it for me

I had an apple computer and having a config definitely helped despite not all the commands changing things the same way
You might not get everything on the lowest settings but it should help

which config did you use?
i hear rhapsody is mostly about commands and doesn't change the dxlevel, which is appearntly the reason configs don't work on macs

I just used Chris's config but that was ages ago
Use comanglias config
It won't change everything to look the same as on a windows computer but it should still help. You shouldn't have to change the dxlevel

Non windows versions use valve's dx to opengl wrapper
You can change dxlevel to any of the dx9 ones but dx8 doesn't exist for mac and linux. So you can use any config, but use whichever dx9 dxlevel gives the most fps instead of dx8

Coming from someone who uses bootcamp, using configs does work on windows once you install it. Also I noticed my performance got a lot better from using windows over mac for whatever reason. I'd recommend it tbh
configs do work on macs, at least, i've never had a problem with them on mine
Class configs work on mac. I dunno about autoexec but default.cfg and your custom class configs should do the trick fine without having to dual boot.
wtf I play on mac and you can do every single thing a windows computer can do, except get good fps. :c

what are you talking about? I have a mac as at the time it was the best choice for school but I can run a config and get this:
load sound "vo/medic_PainSharp07.wav", file probably missing from disk/repository
2639 frames 37.387 seconds 70.59 fps (14.17 ms/f) 4.380 fps variability
edit: running on a rMBP 13" late 2013 with a slightly modified conmaglia's config 1280 x 800 HiDPI
I am also thinking about partitioning my mac but only have 69 gigs left. I am assuming that that is not enough but I don't know can someone give me a tip maybe who knows not me...
