I still don't know how to start playing competitive. I've done newbie mixes, I've played tf2 lobby, posted threads on UGC for HL. It seems that every team including iron is looking for a player with past experience. The only other way I can think of is getting a group of friends, but none of my friends play TF2. I'm willing to learn, but the tools just aren't there.

Newbie Mixes and lobbies are sort of considered experience. Also, you could try pugs and mixes on atf2.org.

Try and make friends with the other people in newbie mixes (or tf2mix); finding people you like playing the game with is just as important as the coaching.

Get really good DM, Learn the game, and ring for every team any leagues...build rep.
With the above, you'll be accepted to any team.

You could always back-up for a team(s) and watch scrims with that team. This will not only help you learn the ins and outs of the game but also will get you time playing.

Just keep pugging and doing newbie mixes, put LFT in your name. Eventually someone will pick you up.

Looks like you're already in competitive TF2 you're just having trouble finding a team. It looks like your account is brand new so start by making a looking thread in the recruitment forum.

Exactly this. Play well in pugs and have a good attitude. People will remember you. You'll get on team eventually man.

Newbie mixes and lobbies are a good start. You should move over to #tf2mix on mIRC and start playing there. The skill level is higher, and you will be able to meet/make friends with players already in the comp scene. Once you have been playing there for a while check out #tf2.pug.na which is where everyone plays, but out of all these options pug.na has the highest skill level so don't rush into it. Do it the right way and move up slowly from #tf2mix

you need to play a little more than 82 hours imo to get onto a competitive team.

go onto recruitment forums, post your info and what class you are looking for.
