I play 5e once every week or two. Currently playing a human warlock with the sailor background in an islands based campaign. Last session I got just enough gold to buy the biggest boat you can buy in the phb, but decided to go with 600 row boats instead.

DnD is fun.

I used to play warhammer 40k some years ago. The games workshop near me closed down and I lost interest. I still paint them every now and then when im bored.

Same, I used to have a decent Chaos army back when they were still making the pewter figurines. I sort of got back into it a couple years ago, but I don't want to have to go to the suburbs to find people to play with. Painting the miniatures is still really nice, in a zen sort of way, but I don't feel like dropping the kind of cash it takes to get new ones if I'm not going to play much.

I used to play a good amount, still do. Mainly D&D 3.5 with a bit of Cthulu and others thrown in. I still play it online with some irl friends way back from high school, good times.

If there were a demand for it, someone who's not lazy like me could make a tf.tv tabletop group, playing them online honestly isn't that bad imo

An online playgroup would be alright, but I'd feel like an idiot wearing all my LARP gear at my desk.

Still fairly new to D&D as I started watching geekandsundry's stream a couple months back. Just started a new 5e homebrew about a month ago. Got a solid group of 5 nerds playing on Roll20 and it's pretty dang fun. The only shame is that we only play for a couple hours a session and about two times a week.

My first character was a Tiefling rogue that was pretty nutso and my current nerd is a half-orc monk acolyte named Zeghn Yagtah with a neat sunstone that glows when he says 'transcendence'.

I've been playing 5e with a regular group every week for the past year and a half or so in an Eberron inspired setting, and currently also a group with some people at my university trying out 5e (on top of a few other groups that are in scheduling hell). I like to homebrew also but because I don't DM, I don't get much of a chance to try my stuff out.

I've been looking into GMing TEOTW: Zombie Apocalypse for a one-month-new-game-rotating-DM thing that 1.5 year DND group is trying to organize too. Looks pretty interesting but we'll have to see how it turns out.

People at the CS lounge at uni like to play some deception-based card games a lot also. Coup seems to be the favorite, but Bang! and The Resistance tend to get played too. They're pretty nice as just a quick thing to play.

I'd be down for this if someone wants to organize it (as long as I don't get screwed over by my schedule).

Wow, there's some interest here, which is fantastic. I'm qt work right now, but in a couple of hours I will make a group. I'm actually starting a game in a few weeks with some other tf2 players, so you all will have to forgive me if I don't want more than 4 or 5 people in that game. I've never actually ran a game before so this part is new for me.
That being said, it would be a good way to organize people who are interested. So I'll make the group later today.
In the meantime, anyone who is interested should look at http://www.d20pfsrd.com. all of the rules for pathfinder are there, legally. Pathfinder is essentially a pro mod of 3.5 edition, balancing out classes as well as adding some new ones for more customization options. It is a little more complicated than the more recent versions but again it is all online for free which is nice.
I would also recommend the podcast Critical Role, which is a bunch of voice actors playing the game, as well as The Gamers ans The Gamers: Darkness Rising, which is a pair of comedy movies about guys playing the game. The production value isn't high, but the writing is of high quality.

i used to play D&D with my sisters and cousins, but they live kinda far away so we would only get ~6 hours of gameplay twice or three times a year, but it was great even though we were all huge noobs lol. one of the funniest moments of my life happened when playing when my sisters bf just kind of randomly started up about how we need to name our group, and hes just looking at us all in turn very seriously and goes "i think we should be the baby strangler wranglers. we will wrangle anyone who strangles babies". just made that up on the spot, it was unreal.

also used to play lots of intense magic the gathering with my uncle and cousins (6 person empire, 5 person star, and some free for all). i kinda lost interest a bit because i was pretty bad, but also my cousins started getting married and my grandma sold her house that we normally played at so that kinda died off. we mostly play board games in my family now,

Never have the people to play anything, but played Risk with my cousins. A big fan of deception games like Mafia though. Play a shit ton of Town of Salem, but I really want Secret Hitler. Oh, and Cards Against Humanity.

I played the *shit* out of 2nd Ed and 3-3.5 D&D but mostly stopped after 4e came out and college ended :( Nobody around these days to sit down with and go ham - plus it seems most people have dropped pathfinder/3.5 in favor of 5 so I'd have to learn everything again :( I've also played a few sessions of Shadowrun and GURPS. Also played a lot of Settlers of Catan in college.

Been playing a D&D 5e campaign for well over a year (I've played with this group for a couple years now). It's really cool to be apart of this sort of 'collaborative storytelling', and although I'm not the best actor / role-player my character has gone through so much that I find it really easy to get into character. Been thinking of trying to DM, anybody got any advice for a first time DM?

Don't sweat it, go for it. Not everyone is made to be a DM, but motivation is the very base requirement. Consider using a pre-made of sorts, Lost Mines of Phandelver is a really well done adventure both player and DM side, but several sessions long, so you might want to do a one-shot first. There are tons of community made one-shots out there, DM's Guild or RPG Drive Thru have free ones as well (you probably want to stay away from converting one from a previous edition/different game for now.) You can probably do it within your current group, gives your regular DM a week 'off' as well - at least I personally I enjoy when players do a one-shot once in a while, because it enables me to play as a player, see how others run the show, and vice versa.

Be flexible, don't be afraid to let go completely, and don't play to win, but to help the players tell an awesome story. It's very fun. :)

Besides that - reddit is a great resource. There's a shitload of D&D/pen&paper gaming related subreddits with countless helpful resources, tools and cool people, great resource for help and inspiration.
