Killing Floor (1 or 2) is a multiplayer fps that is insanely fun, if you're looking for horror outside the typical single-player adventure kind of games you should definitely look at killing floor

AntimoonOxenfree (Probably the best horror game I've ever played. As a big fan of storytelling in games, this really hit the spot for me. Truly an example of videogames as art.)

Wait wat this is supposed to be a horror game? I thought it was a cool adventure game with spooky elements but I never got the feel it was actually made to terrify you. It's more of that eery atmospheric feel similar to Kentucky Road Zero; if anyone knows that, if you liked Oxenfree as a horror game, you will probably like that one too.

I mean, it's not shit-your-pants scary, but the game does set up a general sense of unease and fear. The excellent writing really lets you get invested in the characters, and feel like a part of the story, so when things get strange you can really empathize with them.

TBH, I feel that games like Oxenfree maybe don't seem like horror games because they don't have the visceral impact of the jumpscare-heavy startle games like FNaF. I feel like a good horror game is all about atmosphere, and getting inside the player's head to let them scare themselves, something which a lot of the games mentioned in this thread don't do (irrespective of how good they are otherwise).

I'll definitely check out Kentucky Road Zero.

To keep on point with the thread, I'd also recommend Kona and 35mm.

eeeAntimooneeeDead Space is fun but not super scary (3 is co-op)
Cry of Fear is free and has a co-op section
Dear Esther is free I think and kind of shitty but alright atmosphere to have in the background
Moirai is free and kinda creepy as a one off
also repping FEAR as one of the best early 2000s FPSs. Its a good game on top of being scary
How are you going to call Dear Esther kind of shitty after listing Cry of Fear? The original Dear Esther mod was mediocre, but the remake is really well done (though not free). Cry of Fear, while an admirable effort, ends up paying like a slightly spookier Resident Evil with significantly worse puzzles. Also, the experience in Cry of Fear varies greatly depending on which of the many campaign things you play.
Dear Esther is hard to call a game so i found it boring. Cry of Fear was at least a bit spooky

although I genuinely have trouble finishing horror games so I'm probably not a good critic of their quality

Ye Dear Esther was made by The Chinese Room which is a dev studio that specializes in "walking simulators", almost to their detriment.

Examples being: Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and their sequel Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.

RagorWhile they aren't considered horror games, the STALKER series and Metro 2033/Last Night games have fantastic horror elements.

Metro 2033 is one of my favorite games!
I should get Last Light someday.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is probably my favorite horror game of all time

also Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is a pretty good horror game if you can get past the dated game mechanics

Mouldif you have a ps3 get the silent hill hd collection, I've only played sh2 but I imagine the rest are good too

just to add to this, SH2 was actually on PC so if you can find a copy (or a download of it) you could do that instead, however the PS2 version is superior (even to the ps3 version) so youre probably better off just emulating it
3 was good as well, follows the same guidelines as 2
I JUST finished playing The Room this summer and honestly if it was half as long I would have liked it but the second half of the game is frustrating.

Resident Evil 1-3 are fine, and im sure 0 is fine (2 and 3 need to be emulated, 0 and 1 are on pc)

Look into Haunting Ground, it looked pretty neat from when i was looking into it.
