Ethernet jack on laptop still won't recognize a cable, so I (still) have to play off of wifi which is utterly awful

Things I've tried

using a different Ethernet cable
call tech support in my apartment complex and have them look at the Ethernet outlet in my room
uninstall drivers and reinstall drivers
use a working Ethernet cable back home, works just fine there

also I have a shitton of homework to do tonight
