I apologize if there is already a thread for this somewhere that I don't know about.
I recently purchased a 144hz monitor from amazon and I can't figure out why I can't enable 144hz. When I go to either windows settings or Nvidia control panel, it doesn't give me the option to go to 144hz. It only gives me 60hz and lower. It's probably an easy solution but with my luck I probably haven't come across it.
The monitor I bought was a ASUS VG278HV and my graphics card is a gtx 970. The monitor connects through HDMI and I've tried replacing the wire but it still doesn't give me the option to go to 144hz. I also updated my drivers recently.

You can create a custom resolution in the nvidia control panel to push your monitor up to 144 and maybe a bit higher
I could be wrong but I don't think hdmi supports 144hz at 1080p. You need to use dual link dvi or display port.

This you should be using a DVI cable
This you should be using a DVI cable
So now the issue has become that the monitor itself is not detecting the DVI cable. It's weird because I can plug it back into my other monitor and it'll work just fine.
nigga I just spent all season using an hdmi cable with my 144hz monitor

I actually got this monitor a couple weeks ago and only now realized it wasn't actually running 144hz. At least I noticed it somewhat early.

Finally got it to work! The DVI cable worked perfectly. Thanks a bunch Jojo!

The question is did you play better though
Because if so then the 144hz lives inside you

Technically hdmi 1.4b supports 120Hz @ 1080p, but I don't know of any monitor that actually supports using hdmi for 120 HZ, even over hdmi 2.0+. Use dvi-d or displayport (if your monitor accepts it) if you want 120Hz+.
