The match ruleset has been revised to 30 min timelimit due to the Esports Arena's concerns over tournament scheduling. 5 winlimit for 5cp and 4 winlimit for koth, as well as the two 120 second tactical pauses are still in place. Tournament format will be included in an official news post soon.

Yeah tbh I wasn't sure how I was gonna play that much tf2 in that rapid of succession without wanting to die.
I know fair seeding is important but I'm not sure how well many of the players do playing basically 5 to 6 hours straight of tf2. I know I would be burnt after trying my hardest to win 3 hours in if I didn't get a 15-20 minute break. I don't think the ending of seeding matches should be an endurance contest

We are interested in the 45 minute ruleset, it was legitimately just a question of time. In the end the most important thing to everyone involved is that all the teams be fairly seeded on LAN.... also the stage is being shared with other events. We've had to remove the Open finals from the stage already just to get as much invite TF2 on stream for people as we possibly can.
i was intrested in seeing how the 45 minute was going to play out, that's too bad.

Actually Esports Arena's concerns are pretty much the only ones that mattered. I'm sure you were deeply concerned about making sure Shadowrun and Halo were on stage lol. If this was a TF2 only LAN it would have been the originally agreed upon ruleset. Next time.

Decided to go. See you all in two weeks!
Edit: I wanted to ask, is anyone who is local driving back up in the direction of Westwood Sunday evening?

The second you knew that having 45min timelimit would decrease the amount of games streamed, this dumb fucking idea should've been called off. You're also assuming that teams could set up their gear, get on the server, ready up, and then play a bo3 in the timespan of 2hours. The tournament would get so fucking delayed on day 2.
I don't think involving people in these meetings who are so personally invested in the tournament is a good idea. Sami is the one who has to go to her bosses with the ideas. And if her bosses got to where there are now by being good at what they do, they'll instantly reject a proposition like this.
Which I guess they did :)

I'd assumed the compromise regarding not having the full hour was also made with tournament admins, it's surprising that it's taken until now for tournament disrupting rule decisions that don't matter much to be adjusted.
I'm not sure if 8 minutes worth of pauses are still justified for a 30 minute game, that now potentially adds over 25% onto the overall play time for a map which seems excessive considering that it will be 8 minutes of frozen players doing nothing. Also first to 4 for koth leaves that at around the 45 minute time limit if all rounds are played to the full so those maps will potentially still stretch the schedule. I wouldn't say it's entirely cleared up.

They're both just being whiny bitches. Just game boys.

Considering it makes up like 1/8th of the map pool and are not at the top for any team's probable map picks, I wouldn't worry about it offsetting the schedule too much

Depends on how the map picking goes, if it gets used in a large proportion of bo3s then it will add up. It's not likely to go to max rounds very often either, but it needs to be modelled if scheduling is your concern

shame, I would have liked to see this new format. I wish they could have found away to schedule it. Also no one has a right to complain about it. It's their tournament. NA players have always had to play on eu rules so its not that different.

Whilst I don't disagree with the 45 minute format, I don't think the first major Tf2 tournament of 2017 was the correct way to debut it. From a casting perspective I'm glad we're sticking with 30 mins a map because even with that TF2 can be exhausting to cast consistently, a potential extra 15 minutes on every map all adds up to quite a bit more extra casting (and playing which some players have already spoke out against).
Still I'm properly hyped, easily going to be one of the greatest LANs we've had.

that makes sense. Im just glad there's a win limit. Matches will be great still
Tbh it would have been funny to watch b4nny realise his system is bad by getting stalemated for an extra 15 mins and lose but it would ruin the games so it's good we're removing it.
I doubt b4nny would ever consider his opinion incorrect
Any one got a rough idea of teams in the open cup?

kilaz-iwnw-I took the liberty of making a spreadsheet of all Open Tournament teams. PM me your team's roster and team name so I can put you on. I will be adding them as often as possible. Don't expect the most immediate response.

edit: atm there are only 3 teams registered for open, and with the youstake fundraising cut the current prizepool is $650 and growing. the finals won't be on stage but as the pool gets bigger it's worth playing :)
