No one uses the FaN seriously.

It's bad.

It's good, and it has its applications. The scattergun is just better 99% of the time.

I'm pretty sure Sonmychest used it in last seasons IM final (gravelpit c defense).

There are plenty of names for competitive FaN scouts, several of which are unsportsmanlike.

MACKEY

Thief is probably the best with it, if only because nobody else has spent like year of in-game time with it.

It's useful if you want to survive longer and provide effective distractions while your team pushes, but your teammates will bitch that you "aren't realizing your full damage potential"

I do understand that the FaN is not the best competitive gun, but I enjoy playing it in pubs and when I played a HL tournament one time.

it's fucking cool but there's a lot of dorks (read at the very least: not mackey) doing it and there's an obvious difference and mostly inferiorities in using it

As long as you avoid direct combat it's not a bad weapon. I don't really think the benefits outweigh the terrible combat ability. I wish it reloaded at the same speed as the Soda Popper.

mackey/thief are decent with it lol, scattergun will always be superior to it though

The only times I've seen it useful is once on granary mid, a scout sat on his catwalk and denied the dumb jumpers that jumped near him (i.e. me). That and then the gravelpit B defense with a scout on the roof.

Thief is the best FaN scout hands down. He really has it mastered and plays it really well as a pest taking attention off of other players and getting good picks and actually manages to survive multiple players trying to kill him at any one time.

In an actual 6v6 environment there is no way you can even compare Mackey to Thief (when it comes to FaN scout of course) I have been in a scrim where Thief was ringing for us and mackey was on the opposing team. Both were playing FaN, Thief was noticeably better.

#26 I've played against thief plenty of times, and he can't hold a candle to anyone past mid open.

S on my chest, and ggyglygy are the best two who use it hands down, and neither run it full time.

To answer the OP, the FaN is a great pub weapon and also pretty good for highlander as the extra movement greatly increases your survivability.

In 6's however it changes the scouts role to something closer to a roamer, in that they do quick burst damage and distract, however a roamer is much better at this, and scout is much better at his usual purpose.
