Buzzing noises from the Modmic?

I was interested in buying a Modmic, but I read that without a sound card or a USB audio adapter there is quite a bit of buzzing. Can anyone with a Modmic confirm this? Also, is it present in Modmic 4.0s and 5.0s? I don't know how this stuff works lol

If you have headphones with a removeable cable I'd definitely go for the vmoda boom pro. It's a lot more convenient and sounds about as good; some people like the sound more. I also have a modmic and sound card, but only noticed a slight buzz. It was, however, annoying enough for me to buy another mic.

Yes there is, just about every analog microphone (3.5mm or XLR w/o interface) will have some background buzz due to the gain. Just buy a $3 USB sound card and move on.

^ Yep, unless you have an external audio interface, most of the time you will experience interference from the onboard sound on your motherboard.

This is a bit unrelated to the OP but does an external audio interface help with noise in headphones?

With a modmic 3, 4 or 5 chances are that your onboard sound will not have enough gain. You won't hear anything.
I mean your voice will be too quiet to understand.

No buzz on the 4 or 5 with a soundcard.

Obviously if your noise cancelling settings are fucked up or the soundcard is buzzing you'll have buzzing no matter which microphone you use.
