So after an incredibly long period of fighting I convinced my friend of 10 years to try 6's after him despising competitive and it's players in general due to how much they ruin his fun in pubs, but I'm very worried about the people he will play with, my first 6v6 experience 5 years ago was with nice people and a modest leader from the upper division, we went over callouts and everything and I wont think his luck will be the same. Is there anything I can do to help him find a good place?

If possible i would just guide him through the basics first, and then maybe play a mixchamp or faceit with him

Though you have to be honest. There's always going to be unnecessarily rude people in all communities. He's going to run into them eventually but I'd be more than happy to help him find a nice team full of gamers that just want to have fun and improve.

I'm assuming that competitive players are rolling teams in pubs and this is why hes mad. The thing about that is he is mad that others are better than the average player. that has nothing to do with competitive. I know many people who only play pubs and play together and roll pubs. That isn't a reason to hate competitive. That is called being a sore loser. Rather than trying to improve and be better and learn he just blames his loss on other people and a whole community. That is why I sorta agree with monkey suit. it just kinda seems like he doesn't have the drive to be better. when i first started competitive i got rolled and thought, "I wanna beat this guy" and I tried to be better. This guy doesn't seem like he wants to do that. but idk i dont really know him.

It's not worth joining a team that won't be fun to play on. It's great you're encouraging him to try to join one, but the best advice I can give (through you) to him is to find teammates with similar goals, who are chill in mumble/discord. What does he want to get out of his first season? Learning 6s, improving at TF2, and having some fun? Make sure the teams he's trying out for have similar aims. When he does get a try out, actively think "are these good people? will I get along with them? are they rude to teammates when something doesn't work?" it's sometimes a bit of a minefield and easy to get bad teammates, but as long as he's careful, I think he can find an enjoyable and productive team environment.

tbh if he doesn't want to play 6s you shouldnt try getting him into it, give him some exposure then if he asks for more then you can introduce him to a team. If he doesn't even want to try it then he never will like it
