as touching and heartfelt that finale was, it really was rushed, with all the different characters, plot lines, dialogue, and action, you think they would've maybe made the finale a double-episode so like 40-50 minutes long, so i'm kind-of disappointed in thatalso ashi still being a part of jack's universe without aku didn't make much sense, but i guess it was for dramatic effect, just silly she dropped dead all of a sudden
other than that, i think it was a pretty good way to wrap up the series, i give the finale a 7/10 and season 5 as a whole a 9.5/10

Honestly, for me, it was just wild to watch my favorite childhood tv show finally come to an end. I remember being so sad when it was cancelled, but its finally over. I never thought the series would have a proper ending.
Rikachualso everything felt rushed
yes it should have been 13 episodes like all the other seasons
yes it should have been 13 episodes like all the other seasons
Last episode as a whole felt rushed to me cuz so much was happening from all the old characters showing up again but the final scene of the series was just so beautiful.
Only things I wanted that weren't there: A longer 1v1 of Jack vs Aku, Ashi to live, if she were to die then a more impactful goodbye, I.e, Jack telling Ashi his real name before she disappeared or Ashi learning it off screen and saying it as part of her final words to Jack, more episodes, and more Scotsman.
Overall, I loved this series, I can see where hate could be coming from, but I'd give this series a 9.05/10, definitely a great experience, and one of my favorite animated shows to date.
EDIT:I feel Genndy's last shot was breathtaking, and a much better ending just came to me, even though I thought the ending was pretty good, but here's the ending I would've preferred given a bit more time.
Aku is killed (in a two-part-er, thus making the 1v1 of Jack vs Aku longer, Ashi would be fighting, more mentally since she could kill them easily with her powers of Aku, her mother or the rest of the cult), Ashi, since she was born to her mother, can actually only have some of Aku’s powers (shape-shifting.) Ashi nearly dies in Aku’s lair, after Aku is sliced into a single piece which Jack glares down at. Aku, realizing that he is f*cked, decides to purposefully remove his existence so Ashi will die. The Scotsman quickly learns of this and comes to trade his essence with Ashi's; therefore, sacrificing himself in order for Jack to live a peaceful, normal life with Ashi. Ashi lives and all seems well at first, BUT Jack is still tormented, in the back of his mind, by not being able to get back to the past and save all of the lives that were destroyed because of Aku and by his aging conundrum. The ending scene is in the destroyed forest where only one tree remained (in the future of course) and Jack sits there solemnly, when Ashi walks up besides him saying, that hope lives and there must be a way to get him back to the past. Jack corrects her saying in order for US to get back to the past, and just before they kiss, a ladybug lands on Jack and Ashi’s hand; reinforcing that hope lives, they kiss and the forest that Aku devastated finally starts to heal with the presence of pink flowers growing back slowly. *Original outro plays*

BeelthazusJack going back to the past and destroying Aku there defeated the entire point of the show. The end of the fourth season we knew there was no way back to the past for jack, so the show took on a deeper meaning. In the fifth season the show seemed to embrace this purpose of living with the past, moving forward, and living jack's life. The entire last episode just shits all over this concept that has been built on for five and nine tenth's seasons, and I refuse to accept it as Genndy Tartakovsky vision for the show's finale. This reminds me of the mass effect 3 ending, and it was just about as rushed.
10000% this. The only message I can see the show taking now is one of "the world goes on." Just felt so empty to show all the characters we met and liked over the series' lifespan, only to go back and decide that they never existed in the first place; that, in a sense, Jack himself killed them. To instead end the show with a bunch of characters from Jack's childhood that we only met once or twice for brief moments... an incredibly unfulfilling ending to an incredible season.

Ashi & Jack's relationship was pretty forced over the course of like 4 episodes, so there wasn't enough time to develop any emotional investment. Overall their relationship does kinda make some sense considering they're both people who don't have any experience interacting affectionately.
I was really hoping that more focus was toward's Jack reuniting with his family. That was one of the biggest motivating factors for Jack throughout the entire series, so him coming home to his father and mother should have been THE moment where his journey had finally come to an end.
Decent ending, but wasted potential for me

I'm a lil late but i was on a 5 day trip. I'm gonna give me personal critique on the show as a whole. Also i'd like to state that i watched this show as a new comer of sorts, I didn't grow up with this show, and I didn't watch all the episodes, just some episodes along with a quick synopsis of the entire series and characters. Also This is my opinion and you can disagree with me, maybe you like some stuff that did happen which is fine
EDIT: I'll add more to this critique but it's late rn and i got summer classes tomorrow.
Rating: 9/10
The beginning as the best part IMO of the season, set a great dark tone, established great character, and the story was well paced along with great action and dramatic scenes, it flowed so well and got me soooooo hooked, I personally wished the show kept this theme. There was no hope and after years of hopelessness and suffering everything seemed natural, like how things would be, jack depressed with no sword, killing a person the first time (young innocent ones as well) did make jack's depression natural and right. everything fit together and It fit the darker tone narrative, also with the show being on Adult swim it would make sense to keep this up, or as i thought they would.
Rating: 6.5/10
This was the start of the downhill that this show went on. Giving ashi more depth and having jack and ashi over come there problems were alright, but how they executed them was slow and kind of a let down. These were the episodes that made me unsure what direction the show was heading in terms of tone, (was it going to be more friendly, romantic, still keep the dark tone? it changed a lot). these episodes didn't flow together as well as the beginning did
Rating: 4.5/10
God where do I begin.... They made the insignificant parts slooooooooow as fuck (tea part where jack got his sword back, scaramouche trying to get back to aku, the entire episode 8 was fucking pointless and boring for most of it and the romance was rushed af and was borderline cringe IMO) and the significant part rushed as fuck... (killing of the mother, scaramouche, not enough time of aku vs jack, the way he got his sword back was autistic IMO and they rushed it. Also jack was out of character/a fucking retard in these episode. (him in the romantic episode, HOW HE LOST HIS SWORD PISSED ME OFF, you were sad that you killed some sheep and you dropped your sword down a pit? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?, etc.) theses episodes also went back to like the older samurai jack episodes tone (like when it was on CN, more kid friendly(actually i should say more happy go lucky, light tone, which is fine but they changed it so randomly which was so weird and didn't make sense. It exchanged the good dark theme the show established with this forced lighter tone that felt weird and didn't make sense.))
Rating: Don't bother....
Just was rushed to shit, so cliche, and the ending was wtf, I might edit this more to give it a better critique, but it was garbage.
TL;DR Show was good in the beginning and was well paced, then it lost it's charm and was RUSHED, I was afraid this would happen after episode 6 and it did, really sad to what could have been a fantastic show
