r/trackers sidebar for more info, help setting up irc, etc.
but be a little careful of anyone on tftv who actually sends you an invite, because one of the rules of a lot of trackers is not to allow invite seeking/giving on public forums. and on private trackers, if someone gets banned, sometimes their whole invite tree also does. so trust at your own risk. it's much simpler just to take the pth interview (#3)

Interviewing for RED is your best bet. Apollo is nice, but doesn't have as much in terms of quantity and isn't going to get you into higher level trackers like RED will.
If the interview isn't an option for some reason, getting into something like MyAnonamouse (books, magazines, sheet music, etc) is much noob-friendlier, and is a nice gateway tracker for getting into others easily.

I miss the easy days when you could just use the google trick and look for anything that was uploaded to mediafire, pretty much anything you could search would be on there

Google can still be used to find music, you just have to be a little more cautious about the sites you visit, and be willing to not know the quality or source of the files before you download them most of the time.
i.e. intitle:"index of" "Daft Punk" mp3

QuibinaryThe record you posted is on soulseek and if you look it up with zip at the end you can find it easily in 320kb/s. It's also on a couple public trackers
Private trackers are all elitist circlejerks and unless there's freeleech you have to seed new releases for any chance to keep a decent ratio.
What.CD was the only private tracker that had music you couldn't find elsewhere but I'm sure you know what happened to that.
I feel like you misunderstand the concept and reasoning behind a private tracker like What. It isn't to keep people from accessing music, it's to ensure that the collection of music it has is quality controlled, along with the metadata that accompanies it. As for your claim that new music trackers have stuff you can only find elsewhere, that's just wrong, and provably so. Also, ratio isn't really a concern. You can download tons of music before a required ratio even becomes a thing.

I don't know what you mean by quality control considering trackers don't control the quality of torrents uploaded, but your point on metadata is dumb because almost all music files shared on the internet are properly tagged and if they aren't you can do it yourself
this is exactly what redacted does, if you upload something that isn't up to standards you can get banned

I can't think of one music tracker without quality standards and a way to report torrents if they don't meet those standards.
QuibinaryI don't remember claiming that. I don't even know what that means.
..
QuibinaryWhat.CD was the only private tracker that had music you couldn't find elsewhere
QuibinaryRatio is the one of the primary reasons private trackers exist, to get people to seed.
Yeah, it's called retention. It's what makes it so that torrents uploaded ten years ago still exist today, without being pruned for inactivity/lack of seeders. It's a good thing.
QuibinaryAnd if you download tons of music without worrying about ratio you're basically fucked as it's nearly impossible to get your ratio to 0.0 or higher again fast enough not to get your account deleted.
It's like you've never even had an account on What/RED/Apollo. Outstanding. Read what a "required ratio" is. Your account on those sites never gets deleted for any reason, by the way.

maybe the trackers don't control the quality of torrents but the users certainly do, bad transcodes usually get deleted within a couple hours depending on the popularity of the torrent, people are always looking to get perfect uploads with artwork, metadata, album reviews, artists descriptions and the audio formats the tracker has to offer
i'll list a couple things that i like about private trackers (in no particular order) and while they're not exclusive to just private trackers, you can find everything you like inside that without having to use different services
enforced tags and formatting rules
collages are a great thing to discover other types of music
people purchase expensive gear to capture their LPs
vanity house, where artists share their own music, how they produced it, etc
casual games/competitions on the site/the forums/IRC
a nice forum ranging from general chat, books, movies, shows to audio equipment, music production, creativity and technology
well-seeded torrents
heavily unpopular music gets uploaded in great quality that you can sometimes barely even find on youtube/soundcloud
requests, if there's something you want, someone else is likely to have it
Ratio is the one of the primary reasons private trackers exist, to get people to seed. And if you download tons of music without worrying about ratio you're basically fucked as it's nearly impossible to get your ratio to 0.0 or higher again fast enough not to get your account deleted.
i don't know of any popular music tracker that will delete your account if you're on ratio watch, you just can't download things anymore and have to stick to freeleech/filling requests/uploading your own rips which really isn't a hard thing to do
What.CD was the only private tracker that had music you couldn't find elsewhere but I'm sure you know what happened to that.
what makes you think the trackers that rised from What's ashes won't surpass the amount of music it had to offer? for three months, the only way you could get into RED was if you provided proof of being a What refugee (or you got invited). the interviews are the exact same as they were on What and most of the interviewers are still the same old people.

Quibinary"have stuff you can only find elsewhere" contradicts itself and isn't what I said.
Jesus you're not playing this dumb are you? Obviously I made a typo. You couldn't figure out what was obviously meant? Refute the actual argument please. You're just being funny at this point.
QuibinaryI don't remember saying it wasn't a good thing. I don't know why you're trying to teach me about torrents.
I'm teaching you about private trackers, which you obviously don't know very much about. You certainly don't know the required ratio rules on What, or Waffles, or RED, or Apollo.
QuibinaryWhat.CD most certainly banned you for not keeping a good ratio.
You said deleted, not "banned". Disabled is the right word anyway.
QuibinaryWhy else would their staff use donations to pay for seedboxes? Apart from e-peen.
I don't even know what you're trying to say here. You're going to have to explain. Are you saying that What staff used donations to pay for personal seedboxes? If so, I was never aware of it. Pretty shitty thing to do, but I don't see what that has to do with "e-peen".

QuibinaryWhat argument? "that's just wrong, and provably so." Isn't an argument, it's you saying I'm wrong and that that there is evidence of that somewhere in the universe.
There is evidence of it, specifically on RED and Waffles and Apollo, but I begin to wonder if you even have accounts there. Surely you would to make a claim like that.
You certainly don't know the required ratio rules on What, or Waffles, or RED, or Apollo. Not only is this provable, you've done it for me. You still haven't shown that you have any idea, especially by saying:
Quibinaryyou're basically fucked as it's nearly impossible to get your ratio to 0.0 or higher again
I'm going to assume you meant 1.0 because I have two brain cells and could tell what you probably meant. You don't need to keep a 1.0 ratio, ever. No matter what, it's not a requirement.
QuibinaryPedantics, they all mean essentially the same thing.
Deleted implies you could never get the account back. Like someone else said, you're more likely to lose your leech/upload privileges anyway. Only severely messing up could land you a disable for ratio reasons.
QuibinaryObviously you weren't a member of What.CD for very long, yet you try and school me on their rules.
I don't know how long you were on What, but I don't ever remember any drama of the staff using donations to pay for seedboxes. Looking it up, I see that it happened, but I don't know what that has to do with me knowing the rules and you not.

I obviously meant whatever ratio x site requires you to keep. Apparently this is proof I don't know what I'm talking about though.
To be honest I'm not sure if you understand the point of ratio. I'm pretty sure ever private tracker ever is really clear about ratio requirements. Most even allow 0.0 up to a certain download precisely so you can download a bit and start building upload, as long as you seed.
If you just ignore the rules, download 100GB instantly without seeding and then wonder why you get banned...

Hi I don't torrent but can one of you invite pirates tell me what's the benefit of interviewing at a private tracker as opposed to just paying a few shekels for uploaded.net premium and direct downloading everything?
Hi I don't torrent but can one of you invite pirates tell me what's the benefit of interviewing at a private tracker as opposed to just paying a few shekels for uploaded.net premium and direct downloading everything?
this thread is fucking wild, im not even sure what you guys are arguing about
if you don't understand the point of a private tracker like RED, you've probably never had an issue finding music. I get you can use shit like soulseek or public trackers, but those don't gurantee the quality or the availability of what you're downloading. People don't give a fuck about leeching on public trackers because there are no repercussions, whereas on a private tracker you're pretty much guaranteed to have seeded torrents on even the really obscure stuff because people just park seedboxes on them.
just for example, the very first thing i downloaded from what.cd way back in the day was this artists discography. This shit did not exist anywhere else on the internet except in 128kps mp3, and even then i couldn't find everything. I get on what.cd and boom its all there in perfect FLAC, and it was getting actively seeded so it downloaded pretty much instantly. If you don't see the benefit of a large database of organized, heavily moderated, and extensive library of music you probably don't deserve to be on the tracker in the first place.
