Lunacidethe301stspartanHi I don't torrent but can one of you invite pirates tell me what's the benefit of interviewing at a private tracker as opposed to just paying a few shekels for uploaded.net premium and direct downloading everything?
its free
But it probably takes u at least 2 or 3 hours to be ready to download which at minimum wage is more than you need to get direct for a month

Completely free > a few shekels.
Things don't get taken down so you don't have to crawl through 10 mirrors before finding a working one.
Also search function & quality control.

Why would it need time to be ready to download?

Well I mean u have to post on tf.tv for tracker recommendations, wait for answers, go to one of their IRCs, wait for someone to talk to you, convince them you're not a leech etc. I assume there's not someone waiting for you in IRC all day? Sounds laborious to me. Maybe it's not, I've never tried, also I never pirated music so idk how bad direct downloads are there.

The biggest advantage of using private music trackers is that some music doesn't exist anywhere else outside of $100 vinyls and youtube.

i can only think of one time where i couldnt find the music i wanted on slsk and it was only cause i had to wait in a queue. you must be listening to some truly avant garde bandcamp bands with only 3 listeners on last fm or some shit

No that's why it only costs u an equivalent of 1 month premium not 100

idle in the interview channel, set a loud ping alert, go back to playing tf2.

the problem with apollo and RED is unless you have a seedbox or willing to drop some money on requests, it's next to impossible to build a good buffer now.
just downloading music you like and then seeding it isn't really going to work, you have to wait for freeleeches and even then without a seedbox you're probably not going to get much out of them, and they're rare at this point on apollo and RED even doesn't have any last time i checked.
i'd recommend starting on something else like notwhat or a general private tracker, build your ratio and then get into apollo/red through user class forums etc. it's kind of a slow process but if you're not willing to wait then you're probably just going to get banned from private trackers anyway. this way you'll at least understand how ratio building works, whether or not you want to invest in a seedbox, etc.
and finally to those saying they don't understand the point of private trackers it's kind of something you have to experience to see the value. rather than searching through tons of sketchy ass public sites you have everything you could want, well seeded, full FLACs and vinyl rips, etc. if all you download is 128/320kbps albums then yeah it's probably not worth your time, but for anyone who listens to a lot of music it's kind of like valhalla.

Well first of all, MyAnonamouse isn't an "illegal tracker". I don't know what scene you're talking about, but private trackers are linked directly to all the time. The only kind of known rule I can think of is that some trackers would rather not be named fully in public, and MAM is not one of them.

But if you have money for audiophile gear to enjoy your 24bit 96000hz vinyl rips and money for a seedbox, you also have money for direct download premiums/ usenet accounts or actually just buying your music, and all of those seem much less laborious to my uninformed self than getting into high level torrenting?

A large reason for these large repositories of music that can be downloaded is that a lot of the time music is just not available, free or commercially.

sometimes your only options to get a piece of music is to ship a record for 50 euros or torrent it
and personally i've never had a usenet account or premium download site account but i highly doubt they have the selection that dedicated private trackers have. i don't think any site has ever had a collection close to what.cd used to have, though redacted is on its way to that

if you pay for a seedbox for $30/month and use it for say 3 months, you can build enough buffer on multiple trackers that you never have to pay for a netflix/spotify/physical media ever again in your life
and if you pay say 30 bucks to fill 100gb of requests on apollo, you can use that to download 200 flac albums. which is a shit ton of money if you're doing it legit.
and these are just optional, you can use the sites without spending a dollar it just takes more time.
i can see your point, it's just in my opinion a few months of very mild labour to build a lifetime of ratio is worth it. especially if you're like me and enjoy the technical aspect of it, like setting up VPS's, audio encodes, etc. to each their own though, i'm not some private tracker missionary :)

haha, okay. i guess paypal freezing their account in 2013 was just a misclick.
anyway, you avoid direct linking websites that want to remain under the radar (like private trackers), so they have less of a google/web crawler presence. don't know how much it helps but there's no downside.
