SpaceCadetI still don't understand why.
Even if IM had 13-14 teams, the league fees would still add to more money for ESEA.
Pushing all those 13-14 teams to Open will mean the same players still pay to play in open. (unless they quit because of this change)
Lower league fees in Open means less money for ESEA. This can't be strictly about money cause the numbers don't add-up.
I'm certain it was brought up in previous conversations about ESEA that they operate the TF2 divs breaking even/at a loss regardless so it's not surprising they removed IM the first chance they could.

nazaraAnd If we get something like newbie mixes going again open numbers would be fine
sry for my lack of knowledge, but why did newbie mixes die anyways? was it a matter of not enough players? i was only around when it was alive for a bit and i never exactly knew why it died. if someone could fill me in it would be much appreciated <3

The people organizing it were unable to devote time to running it. If you want newbie mixes to come back new people need to take charge and get it restarted/maintained.

Ieebarefoot_banditprolly the best option is to have im merge with open, and then decide what tems we need in invite
this is incorrect

Ye I said that because I talked to tri about it beginning of last season. I don't want to sound like a prick, but I had a feeling this was going to happen. Like I said this is prolly the best outcome we could get. Let's just enjoy the time we have.

Our team will take the extra slot if we can still save IM. Messaging tri.
I was unaware this was a thing or i would have messaged him earlier.

honestly the worst part about this is that teams that are legitimately open and are playing open to get better, to one day eventually move up to higher divs, are now being punished by now being in the same div with a bunch of teams that are far beyond their skill at the moment (although to be fair, they're are teams like this already in open), all because people want to farm money in open.
shame on those teams that refused to move up in a timely manor. you're fucking over the future for these new teams just because you wanted some easy money.

If theres anyone who could do semi-accurate open/IM merge power rankings given a list of all teams and their rosters for each week please add me. https://steamcommunity.com/id/laziestpanda/

I hope you don't mean IM + open rather than invite + open. With invite + open, do you mean like a 20 team invite division? That's not the worst idea, but I don't see how merging IM and invite is better. could you explain because I don't know how it is blatantly the better choice (im legitimately wondering, not rhetorical). Anyway, a large top level where the top division's skill gap is incredibly huge is legitimately one of the worst experiences for both parties. You can say the same thing about merging open and IM, and it's terrible either way, but you have to consider that there would be actually 0 incentive to get to invite if the division were shitty--if top invite had 10 more teams to 5-0. UGC is a prime example of this, despite being hl and UGC; when I played a 15-20 team plat division and rolled every single team except 2, that finalized the death of high level competition in hl, because it simply wasn't fun anymore.
I know this is very telling for tf2's future, but it is only because of the lack of players, not because now there are two divisions. I feel like having two divisions isn't that terrible because it increases the incentive to play with and against better players--to play invite. I could be wrong though, but it doesn't really matter because it's not like the incentive was high recently since the removal of esea LAN.
edit: the best solution would be to move the top 4ish teams to invite to provide a skill level in invite where people wouldn't get rolled every game, because they have a small group of teams to play. The rest would go to open, because low/mid IM is high open anyway.

i know of at least 3 teams that would have moved up to IM. My team talked to tri about it at least a month and a half ago. Not trying to offend anybody but it seems IM died because of laziness tbh. That being said i think lucrative is correct.

Yeah Sally I agree with you...it seems like some people just didn't want to put the effort into keeping IM alive. Needed one more team and didn't ask open teams apparently to move up? 3 or 4 teams have said if they knew IM would die they would have moved up...so looks like someone just didn't want to put in the effort

And although it would be a pain to have everyone pay again if IM got reinstated, I can't imagine it's more than an admin clicking on a team and setting their div to IM, so I dunno why they won't put it back in now. Oh well, sad to see it end like this...

schedules have already been released, so no it isn't as easy as clicking on a team and setting to to im
if you did that then that would turn scheduling into a logistical nightmare

I would hope they don't do scheduling manually so I would think they could just run their scheduling program again, but fair enough if they do it manually...

The real reason that IM and open merged is so that mustard never wins another playoff match in IM ever again.
