"Guys i dont want to spend $1k+ to go to lan and still lose money even if we take first"
"We cant have players who arent dedicated to hemorrhaging money for the sake of stream viewers' entertainment. Sorry, youre cut."
Seems reasonable

I'm sorry but why are people so attached to money? Yes fair if that is way too much for you to go or it something you cant do right now even though you want to go. Like the majority of reason in attending LAN is the experience and to meet people you talk with like everyday and have a real life perception of them. Just my idea of it. I'm 100% down for losing £300-400 to attend a LAN play some games and get drunk and talk to people like, for me I just dont understand the view of missing this big event for a game people have adored and played for years, begged multiplay to give a stage too hold the game despite its shortcomings and get hyped for every year, just for the loss of money.
Jesus, hope people enjoy being attached to the money.

The major reason to fly across the entire country to rewind or across the ocean to i61 is most definitely not to meet your friends and get drunk with them, as there are much closer and cheaper lans (for most NA players to do that at, like GXL). At those lans, the biggest reason to fly that far is to play top level tf2 because playing against the very best teams on LAN is simply indescribable. To each his own, however.
Idk dude, rumors say that we need this "money" thing to buy shit to survive and pay bills and shit

Nah man just rumors money doesnt buy happiness just keep playing tf2 man
Haha the games dying but valve is doing nothing to fix it. It would be so easy; make a froyotech or se7en case where all the funds from the case/key/cosmetics go towards sending froyo/7 to LAN. Make team jerseys, hats, cosmetics, stickers, where 50% of all money made goes towards sending the teams to LAN. Hell, even make an insomnia case where 50% of all proceeds go towards the prizepool making it possible to return home with a net gain if you win. Valve can do all of these with ease but they chose not to for who the fuck knows why.

They don't see TF2 as a viable esport because of its design, they want it to remain as the cartoony hat exchange game, even though the mechanics and players are there for it to be an esport.

"Yes fair if that is way too much for you to go or it something you cant do right now" something I said in my post.

I agree but the opportunity is there and set to play the highest levels of teams in the EU and NA teams are making the choice not to do so (even with fundraisers around) and as you say the experience itself is indescribable in playing against the top teams which is effectively what im getting at all the same, may not be for the same reasons but its still for the experience not monetary value.
But agree, each to their own.
Sure is sad to hear.
i61 had potential to be such a sick lan but its very understandable for the teams that wont go.
I still have hope for rewind, if nothing changes it should be so good
Just felt like tossing it out there (to nobody in particular) that this year Multiplay is saying "Hey i58 was pretty hype, so we're giving you guys main stage again"
Sooooo

hello froyotech we would really appreciate it if you reconsidered your choice

What bus can drive across the ocean? none, idiot!
This thread is pitiful, it's disappointing no NA teams will go and I don't really care if Sev7n attend or not, but 2 teams do not make a LAN. Anyone who still harbours this game of having aspirations of being an eSport is deluded and needs to wake up and rejoin reality. LAN is about community and having a good time with your good TF2 friends, meet other members of the community and it is the best part of this game. The good TF2 games we can play are just a bonus to the overall experience.
For those not going, you might not have as much a good weekend as others but stop crying like this is the end of TF2 or this community, I am sure when people who have no interest in going to another continent quit the game (Ie the ones on Froyo who have played the game nearly a decade) and the next generation of Top Invite / Prem players are formed, the motivation will return again and if there is something I have learned about TF2 is this community is incredibly resourceful.
where did this idea that you can tell people why they go to lan come from
comp tf2 scene: "more lans will keep the game alive!"
multiplay: "aight i got you fam yall get main stage at i61 btw"
top 3 teams worldwide:

some folks have valid reasons like cost and etc, but sadly you kinda nailed it
haha boy its a good job we never constantly nagged multiplay over announcing a tf2 tournament for i61 so all our top teams know if they needed to attend or not

it's odd that the tweets sent by the team captain encouraging this have magically disappeared
edit: the tweets telling multiplay to announce soon so that they could come and then decide not to come are still there, my bad i couldn't find them. sry baniel.
No 7 or froyo.. but what if this whole time lowpander have been getting valve's attention by breaking the 'stale 6v6 meta'

I don't think asking Multiplay to provide the most basic tournament information (that should have been public months prior) and them finally following through really obliges anyone to go to LAN. Only after that point should any team even reasonably start planning to go. Then there are the million other factors that come next that could prevent someone from going despite being initially interested. For that very reason we were extremely careful never to officially confirm we were going to i61 even after the tournament was confirmed. I'm just as disappointed as anyone that i61 might not be a top tier competition, but as for this thread I'm still skeptical that Se7en wouldn't go, based on the convenience factor alone.

Can't some shit be agreed that basically whoever wins, the prize fund (at least in part) can be used to fund travel for Yanks or whatever?
Duno why I'm asking you specifically, but yeah. Answer me, now.
i'm sure a lot of people have been upset by things that we've all been saying over the past week, including my own opinions. the reason the fans are getting so frustrated over this is that we are the community that support the teams both financially and publicly. i understand that fans may not seem that important, but it's fans that run this community. we work hard for this game because we love it and our interest is in seeing the highest level of play which is a very rare occurrence. a lot of us have made many personal sacrifices as i'm well aware many if not most of the players have as well.
this year we've been given a shot, an opportunity to show multiplay that we're worth their investment and can withstand the test of time. i'm encouraged that the community teams are still willing to show up and play the game, but i don't think anyone can fault us for being disappointed and concerned that this marks a downturn in the level of international competition. i will do everything within my own power in the future, but insomnia was and always will be the premiere team fortress 2 event.
