So I'm looking into getting an actual headset/headphones and a seperate mic instead of using my earbuds because they started echoing and I have no idea why.
Budget is around $100-$175 for both headset and mic although I can go a little more if it's worth it. Any suggestions? I have never really used headsets for gaming or general purpose, so I don't want to screw myself over with a bad deal
Thanks

HyperX Cloud is probably the best headset you could ever buy without just buying headphones + mic separately.
Or maybe you could buy the Philips SHP9500 and then a V-MODA BoomPro to plug into the jack on it.

I bought the HyperX Cloud 2 last december. It's by far the best headset I've bought. I've gone through a few turtle beaches and a razer headset over the years. So far this one has been worth the money and bestest quality. I've had no problems with it and it's very comfortable. It's also not plastic!

when you say headset and a mic, does that mean a separate microphone ?
if so, the audio technica ad500x is around 120€ (a bit higher for dollar i suppose) and depending on how much you want to spend, i have the zalman ZM-MIC1 which costs like 10€ or for the more pricey option, go for an antlion mod mic

If you're saying separate headphones and mic,
-ATH M40X or Superlux HD668B for Headphones
-Blue Snowball Ice or Zalman Clip on mic (preference; the ice is a desktop, and you might have to place it awkwardly and play with the audio levels, depending where on your desk you place it.)
In terms of straight up headsets,
-HyperX Cloud II
-Sennheiser Game One Headset

For every single Snowball recommendation, cross it out and get the Samson Meteor instead.
Just a far better mic imo, and it doesn't require a mic arm for it to sound good like the Snowball does.
Edit - my actual recommendations in order of my personal preference
Headset - G4ME ZERO, Cloud
Headphones - DT770, HD598, SHP9500, M40x
Mic - Meteor, ModMic, Snowball, Zalman

For headset:
I'm using a hyperX cloud II atm. Got it about 2 weeks ago. It's great so far but I haven't been using them for long. Mic quality is good, the heaphones are very comfortable compared to all headsets/headphones I've had before
For headphones + seperate mic:
I wouldn't recommend a Zalman mic like was suggested a couple of times. I used a Zalman + Superlux HD668B before the HyperX Cloud II
The Zalman's audio was messed up from the start and Windows couldn't detect the device (windows 8.1) so couldn't change anything about it. The clip broke after a month and the mic itself didn't last 4 months.
The Superlux HD668B had very good audio quality but was not comfortable to wear with glasses. Even on max size it sits quite tightly on my head which pushed my glasses into my skin pretty deeply. Had to switch to earbuds after a while because I was afraid of getting scars from it. Without glasses it's still noticeable but not as bad. I'm basically average height so it's not because my head is abnormally large
If that's not an issue for you I'd still recommend them as a budget option. You'll never find better headphones for such a cheap price. After looking around a bit to compare prices I found some for 20 euros

I was looking at a pair of headphones and a seperate mic, but if the hyperX and the G4me Zero that were recommended are actually good I migth get one of those
Edit: I wear glasses so I think that should be taken into consideration seeing as Tob had issues with certain headsets with his glasses

if you're gonna go with seperated mic / headphones i highly recommend the ATH-M50xs for headphones and a blue snowball
i have a blue yeti myself but it's just a snowball in a slightly larger cylinder

Dont get a blue yeti or blue snowball, overpriced and don't even sound that good

durable as hell though I've had one for last like 5+ years still works fine
I use a Corsair Gaming H1500 headset and they're pretty good audio quality and mic quality, but I've heard a lot of good things about the HyperX Cloud that people have recommended
I'd say you'd want to spend more on the headset rather than the mic because a good enough mic is easy to find

Due to a recommendation from a friend I think I'm going to go with Sennheiser 598 Cs and a modmic 5. I was looking at the open back 598 but I have roommates and don't really want them hearing my games even if they do sound better for me

That combination is great! You should consider it...
