people move on for a lot of reasons, whether it be focusing on your life outside of video games, or greener pastures for professional gaming (monetarily)

Off my chat with Richard Lewis at Dreamhack Atlanta, most former tf2 OW players would rather be playing tf2 if there was money fwiw.

That's nice to hear, although somewhat unsurprising...

For what I've gathered, most of retired players still like the game and watch some LAN events like Insomnia, and might play on PUGs sometimes, and have left because of lack of interest and/or OW's money.

Also Anders and Semmler (CS:GO casters) once talked about being hyped about tf2 matchmaking being added during a game, shame valve flopped it so hard.

ive kinda felt like valve has done more harm to this community than good. i'd rather the casual playerbase dont know competitive exists rather than think its a sack of absolute horse shit

We can only hope that people come more aware of OW player's actual opinion in OW,update fixes both Casual and Matchmaking, and Valve supports this community more, so other people get better view on this community.

Valve hasn't managed to pull through on anything for years. Don't get your hopes up. Focus on making what we have as good as it can be.

So sad anymore what it's become. Pro's put so much work, and Valve just couldn't get it. Sure, everyone, including me puts the blame on Valve for everything, like HL3, Pyro Update, etc. Valve is a busy company, don't get me wrong, and there is probably a reason they haven't pushed much out. To miss the fact however that so many people played TF2 and loved it with their heart and soul, only to for the developer to look at it and go "meh, you don't deserve to be a real esport" until it was too late is a disgrace.

I haven't played league overwatch since first season of UGC and the game has probably changed drastically, but from what i remember lots of people didn't like how the game was being played competitively, as well as how Blizzard was balancing for the comp scene. I could be wrong but that's what i remember. This is also the fact that many of the people ik that play OW just kinda are casual players, and enjoy it that way which is fine. Also, when i say casual I'm including the in game matchmaking system as such.

To relate back to the conversation, I feel like people who know what TF2 is competitively, they would come to a working MM system, but its VERY hard to introduce people to it, unlike many other esports nowadays. So valve prioritizing that aspect isn't so bad, BUT you kinda need a working MM to do that effectively imo.

Pro players go to the game that offers them money for their skillset.
Many OW players have stated that the only reason they play it is money. There's a clip of Taimou where he says pretty much that exactly.

Man imagine if valve actually put money into TF2 comp like they did with DOTA 2 and CSGO

Its a shame when pro players that actually like the game leave because there just isnt any fucking money in this game

It sucks man, theres still so much potential in this 10 yr old game but valve just doesnt care dude

major feels bad man

Dota works because of icefrog, not because of valve.

Their contributions to CSGO have been the negev laser and the revolver so they've done a great job over there as well.

These were great games, originally mods, that valve took over and at the best didn't completely ruin. It seems apparent to me that tf2 was an accident that they've been ruining gradually for years now.
