To be honest, I was actually pretty upset about his rant. He might be right that tf2 isn't ever gonna make it, but if that's the way you talk on stream to 250+ viewers, you're definitely not helping the cause. Talking down about tf2 and being one of the greatest casters is depressing to listen to. I couldn't continue to watch the comments of crushed hope and depression from the viewers. Who knows how many kids sitting on stream were interested in competitive and then turned away by such a power voice to the community. Being optimistic and confident is attractive. Girls dig it in a guy, gamers dig it in a gaming community. I know how he was speaking "real" and "honest," but it's anything but helpful to us. I would assume the money we spent to send our teams to Europe, people would not want to be waste on a depressed and unconfident community. I upgraded my computer for the sole purpose of streaming. I want to make tf2 famous, I want to do my part. And djc, I respect you, I dont hate you, and I dont necessarily want you to be wrong, I just don't want you to be right.

he made a generalization, just because tf2 inevitably will die does not in fact mean it has to be now, stop being so down and help out and do your part, post on a random group in your steam about the streams and get more viewers haha everything ends but it's not the end of the world just because some idiot on the internet verbally expressed it.

you're really going to let something djc says make you question how you live your life? cbear is clueless when it comes to tf2 so his opinion is irrelevant on the state of the game. i dont think anyone can really predict when tf2 is going to die. we just had the biggest lan ever with two american teams competing in an international tournament. yes tf2 will eventually die, but all signs point towards the opposite right now.

Oh please, what does anyone knows where anything is going?
I stoped playing cs 1.6 many years ago because I thought "It was dying", and fuck, I found out years later that the biggest na TF2 lan is made alongside with 1.6 to this day.

Nevertheless, to have nothing else important in life than 1 thing, making that 1 thing your only source of happiness, means you're pretty fuck dude. Go get a girl, or hug your mother, idk.

As djc has said in the past, he is one of the most negative people in the community. Put him casting a match, or talking about theory crafting and you can see his love for it. The negativity probably comes from the sadness of it "at some point" coming to an end. It just came out a little bit raw for some people that dont play in it day to day. I still think he's the man.

Best way to keep tf2 alive? Play tf2 and stop worrying about when it dies. Enjoy it while it lasts and then move on. Or be a br0 and play Modern Duty Call of Battlefield 34 and go to lans and scream like a child haha.

I cant really argue with it. We haven't gotten valve support from the start, so obviously, we have to be community driven, and the community has some great bright spots, but not enough for us to grow extensively.

The most exciting development, atm, is the rapid, consistent growth of the highlander scene. Almost every player that I pubbed with a year and a half ago consistently, the "regulars" so to speak have *all* gotten into UGC highlander.

While I don't happen to think that highlander is the future of competitive format du jour, I think it's doing a lot to bridge the gap between pub and comp. players and mingle the general community of tf2 players and those who play it competitively - in an organic way. You certainly have a much greater awareness in the pub community of what's going on in invite and more awareness of the various personalities.

I got into tf2 for many of the same reasons that DJC said he did. I played it casually off and on for years after it came out, and would go months without playing. Then I lost my longtime college girlfriend, started drinking myself to death, fell into drinking related legal problems, and then decided playing video games at night was the better alternative to shaming myself and trying to have a real social life, being as a condition of my probation was that I would essentially become under 21. It's been good therapy.

I think it's fair too say that the tf2 community can be extremely selfish and short-sighted, if everyone took a second and just tried to do their part to grow tf2 I think it would be extremely possible

The point about getting casters on is somewhat valid, but maybe there hasn't been a consistent enough outreach from eXtv in that regard. How often do eXtine or I ask players like PYYYOUR to co-cast? Probably not enough.

As far as marketing and publicizing our schedule? Still not happening, and yes, it needs to. I did complain about this publicly in the past - eXtv's "upcoming events" section on the sidebar (over at extelevision.com) is rarely updated and almost always out of date. Our scheduler often gets stressed about reschedules and TF2 updates killing ESEA servers, so it may have to be a two-man job to make sure everything gets taken care of.

A lot of the eXtv-related discussion DJC and CBear had was good and should have been directly communicated to eXtine. I'm fine with it being said live on Lange's stream as well, but unless you actively try to push for changes in the organization, all you're really doing is complaining publicly. I don't know whether DJC sent eXtine a message about some of these issues, but I doubt it.
