I know there had been a couple of these threads already but since recent events I felt like another needed to be made. Since I'm moving to backup on my team due to not having enough time to dedicate, with the nights that I have nothing to do I'm going to start doing these again. I have some new ideas for this time around but I'm always looking for more. Also were always looking for other mentors to come in and herd the new guys.
with talks about how tf2 is "dieing" and not enough new people coming in this is one of the best options we have to bring new guys in. Currently there are 1600 people in group, granted some are experienced players or players that have progressed from newbie status there still is a TON of new guys in there. Waiting to be shown the game we love to play.

Exactly. Last night Tyrone was talking about getting friends into comp and everyone asking their friends. However we already have a channel for that, newbie mix. We just gotta bring it back.
On the plus side, people who have joined the group are clearly interested in 6s.
Hopefully we can bring enough qualified mentors to get it going.

Giffy, make sure you find more admins and more people who can run the thing / get servers together / make steam announcements and make more mixes. I'm glad it's coming back, but it should never have left.

6s steel is a great place to start and learn the ropes. I suggest you do both!

Just played one. Feels so good to finally have a place to play where I'm accepted as a player who wants to learn and play but has no experience. I became frustrated and became a spectator of competitive tf2 after realizing there was no such place after newbiemixes died. It was like this: pubs -> lobbies -> ??? -> PUGs/scrims/matches, but newbiemixes have filled the void.

Shlaner, Instead of trying to start your own thing why don't you help the current NA newbie mix? Just kinda seems like you want to have a spotlight. And the whole priority spots to your followers on youtube/twitch is really silly.

Sounds like a good idea, I'll stop promoting my personal thing since it's redundant. I'll definitely direct them there, but I'm still going to keep my own thing because it's much more interactive to be in a game with my followers. It makes more sense to teach my followers "one on on" than to just redirect them and play with a "stranger"!

I watched the newbie mix's today streamed by SteveC. The stream got a ton better when Variable_ started casting, and they both did a great job. However I think a split of having "Casts" and "Comms" would be a good idea. Like i said, the casts were great when Variable_ started because he was talkative and explained key concepts, but having the Comms there and let people know what its like being in the actual pug hearing the coach interact with the team. Just listening to advice for other players will benefit the other people watching. I would have played but i had to go to work :)

one of the lobbies got stacked and i did too well at demo man and made tino angry so i can't play, i do talk to much though sorry vile it was literally keeping me up to play the rest of it.

One problem that occurred the last time the newbie mixes were running was that open and IM players decided to play in them instead of pug.na and just destroy some of the newer players. If you're not gonna mentor please don't come in to just get easy kills on people learning the game.

Haha, thats cuz Vick is dumb and went over to the new map pug to bring players into newbie mix when there were already enough mentors. I am sure Vick is now aware of his mistake.
Also thank you to all the mentors who showed up, hopefully you will still be available on any future newbie mixes

I brought over like 3 people and they were mentors. Having mentors hopefully gives the game structure. If anyone has complaints about specific people PLEASE MESSAGE ME and I'll talk to them and then kick them if it continues. That's the only way this is going to work.
