As one of the latest rosters to be confirmed for the division this season, ESEA Invite welcomes back a familiar name as Running with Scizors returns to compete after an extended break. They were previously active in Invite during Season 22, posting a 7-9 record. The team spent the next two seasons in Intermediate, winning the division both times. Following that, they took a couple seasons off, though some of its players were seen playing as backups or in other divisions.
The core members of 8K are medic Skye, roaming soldier Rekuso, pocket soldier EvilMrMuffinz, and scout Scizor. The first three have all been mainstays throughout the team's history, while Scizor will rejoin the squad for the first time since Season 21, and hope to complete a full season since playing for EVL Gaming in Season 22. Meanwhile, new additions to Running with Scizors are scout sandblast and demoman sigh. They will each settle into familiar roles and bring top-level experience to the team, as both players were in the playoffs just last season as part of Ascent and froyotech.
Skye shared her thoughts about the pickups, how they'll fit in, and what the team plans to accomplish this upcoming season:
Running with Scizors reformed on impulse earlier this month, when Rekuso approached a few of us from the core of 8K, and asked us to return. With Deathy electing to sit out the season and Jarrett playing for Velocity eSports, our initial roster was missing the leadership we once had. Hence, the new 8K was formed with two additions: sandblast and sigh. Muffinz has played with sandblast on Faint Gaming, and having sandblast’s main-calling pocket scout on our combo is something he is looking forward to. Furthermore, sigh is a playoff-proven demoman – a fantastic player with great mechanics. Both players bring structure and experience to the team; we’re excited to play with them!
As a team, 8K has played in ESEA Invite twice in the past, and placed sixth both times. We are confident that we’ll end our sixth place streak this season, and aim to break into top four. Personally, I’m thrilled to be back on a team with some of my favorite gamers…and a little miffed that the Vaccinator has been banned.
