With ETF2L Season 29 Premiership qualifiers finishing, teams who secured their spots into Premiership are far from relaxed. For one team created from French beginnings, they exhale as they finish placing the final touches on their roster. Ascent.EU, formerly known as top5rocket, is confident on doing better than 2nd Place this season after a tense Grand Finals with the now disbanded SVIFT during Season 28.

The team was formerly sponsored by nerdRage around ETF2L Season 26, before being released in Season 27 due to poor performance from - contrary to their original namesake - a 6th Place finish and an elimination before playoffs. During Season 28, top5rocket was acquired by organization Ascent, making them the second team to represent a well-known name born from TF2 roots. The roster was composed of Ombrack, Néo, Corbac, and fluo, in addition to former Ascent.EU players Elacour and credu.

Following the conclusion of Season 28 and their 2nd Place finish, the team was said to be unsure as to if they would continue playing, with team leader and medic Ombrack citing underperformance. The team moved to dismiss fluo for this reason, however both Corbac and Néo expressed wanting to step down around the same time. To rebuild their missing half, the team enlisted chris from Da Choke Bustaz, soon after followed by Funs of the late Lowpander, and finally Josh from the slumbering LEGO.

Ombrack expressed optimism about their Season 29 lineup when he spoke about his new recruits to teamfortress.tv:

Despite being down three players, two being really close friends of mine, I'm really happy about the replacements we got. We're really lucky to get established players such as Funs and Josh, and in one season, Chris has already proven himself as a strong up-and-coming roaming soldier. Even though we haven't played much yet, the team is feeling good, and we're eager to jump into the season and to see what we're able to do. And despite the french society being reduced to only two players, we hope that the irish add-ons and our welsh powerhouse will be enough to carry us!

All in all the line-up is looking strong on paper, but there are still a big lot of adjustments to be made, so we're going into next season with the will to improve, and to make of Ascent a force to be reckoned with in Europe.
