I think gen 4 mechanics wise was really good with the physical/special split, and that gen 5 had like an actual storyline that was a little bit beyond "big bad team tries to take over world" and at least attempted to raise moral questions and the like.
but man gen2/3 are hard to beat, story and post game content are really really good and the new mons were great. i actually really hate gen 1, can't place it but there's something about it that rubs me the wrong way besides my blue cartridge being a glitchy piece of shit.
never played past b/w
edit: also holy shit emerald post game is honestly so fun but fucking infuriating

reakoi have many problems with this poll. complaints inboundShow Contentplatinum should be in a category of its own because while it is popularly considered the best pokemon of all time, pearl and diamond where literal trash for many reasons. theres no ultra sun/moon. generations mixed together.
im lazy and didnt wanna make more categories so i just grouped them by story line

the second gym is a 25 second boat ride and if u actually played the 2nd gym before finishing the 8th gym you were horribly misguided

in terms of competitive mons, gen 6 was the best. the meta in other gens was stale or centralized, most notably in earlier generations where Taurus and Snorlax dominated the meta. Later gens had the problem of being centralized by rain/sand. Gen 6 had a sort of centralization with a mega being practically a requirement on every team, but also allowed for a lot more variety than with previous gens. Gen 7 is super trash by comparison, to the point that one mon, (lando-t) has 50% usage across ladder. basically gen 6 is best competitively speaking.
heartgold because there were literally 2 fucking games
off topic but my brother had a save on leaf green where he had 9 level 100 pokemon, and like every bit of the game was complete, all legit and being young and the second pokemon game i had ever played i saved over it. Platinum is the best only a little better than gen 3
everyone knows HGSS was the best man idk why yall niggas actin like it aint
