6.5.5 released with bug fixes, networking enhancements and performance improvements.

fizzwhizThere is a typo, "packet_size_conversative". Also, what benefits are there of disabling console output for certain features, besides a less-cluttered console?

Edit: How was 96 determined as the optimal high decal count?

Thanks. In addition to less clutter, technically console output affect performance by a small amount.

96 was experimentally determined to give the best tradeoff.

I've got a question about the upload rate generator, if we know we are also going to be streaming at the same time as playing, and therefore not all upload capacity is available for tf2 to use, should we subtract from our total upload rate?

For example, If I have an upload rate of 3.04 Mbps and I know I stream at 2400 kbps, should I subtract the "used" amount and input ~0.6 Mbps into the calculator?

Hello, just a quick heads up, it seems that the scene_flush command used in the comp.vpk file at line 1831 (when opening the file in notepad++) can get you permabanned on SourceOP community servers.

Here's my ban report: http://www.sourceop.com/modules.php?name=SOPBans&o=id_details&id=51026

Here's the only other thing on the SourceOP forms that I could find about it: https://forums.sourceop.com/threads/88355-Unban-Request-SexyGreenFrog?highlight=scene_flush

Yeah that could be beneficial, but keep in mind that the generator already takes 80% of your upload rate.

That's unfortunate, as it improves performance. I'll comment it out.

Thanks for posting this! I finally got around to installing it properly (as opposed to appending the commands to my autoexec) and the vpks + module system works really smoothly.

One piece of feedback that I have is that the list of VPKs is super intimidating to a newcomer, and I had to have a couple folks on my stream walk me through selecting the right one. Once I had the right one selected, I couldn't quickly figure out how to install it. I know you have instructions posted with a header that says "Download and Install", but it'd be great if you called out explicitly that the VPKs literally run themselves and that you don't have to add anything do your autoexec to make it work.

In conjunction with my first piece of feedback, it wasn't easy to tell that the VPKs were working. When I removed my custom.cfg, I'd see the mastercomfig echo in console on game start. When I added my custom.cfg back to my /tf/custom/slincustomstuff/cfg folder, the mastercomfig echo would disappear (and I checked my autoexec for a "clear" command). I'm still not even sure if the mastercomfig echo is supposed to disappear when I add a custom.cfg -- it'd be great if I saw the echo whether I ran a custom.cfg or not, and since I know you're reading the thread it'd be great if I got your confirmation here as well!

Again I know how much work went into making this as easy and seamless as possible, and it works swimmingly. Thanks again for doing this!

I'm working on a few gradual improvements to the config that should make the list of VPKs more organized and better explained.

MR_SLINIn conjunction with my first piece of feedback, it wasn't easy to tell that the VPKs were working. When I removed my custom.cfg, I'd see the mastercomfig echo in console on game start. Since your custom.cfg is running, then mastercomfig would have to be running. Not sure why the console output is not there, though.

Also, I watched your VOD and I think comp would work better for you than compquality, since compquality enables shadows and some other extra effects while comp disables those and does not have blocky textures.

Finally, shaders on high runs better on modern mid to high end systems, which is why the config had it set to high. I would recommend comparing low and high and seeing which one works best for you!

MR_SLINAgain I know how much work went into making this as easy and seamless as possible, and it works swimmingly. Thanks again for doing this!

Thank you for the kind words and also, to answer your question that you asked on your stream, yes, I'm a she :)

Is there any actual performance difference from using the VPK instead of just adding all the convars into an autoexec.cfg?

Yes, it includes some other custom files that aren't in the autoexec.cfg.

Thank you! Great work btw, after tinkering around with the modules I've definitely noticed an fps boost and slightly better reg too.

Hello, I have a slight problem with the mastercomfig. Few weeks ago, I almost gave up on TF2 but then found this config with decently easy install instructions and after installing the game and applying the comp preset, the game ran great. To put it clearly - before that, I was not able to use a sniper rifle or play scout because of the FPS, but with the config it was playable again (subjectively 2x faster and smoother). But then I tried the badgpu and badcpu addons to test if it can be further improved. It actually made it worse, so I deleted them and from that time I can't get the initial great performance I got from the comp preset alone that one time.
I tried the clean up method, I tried even reinstalling the game, deleting all TF2 folders from steamapps folder, and applying the config on the clean install as in the past. Well, I can see the difference in visuals (no ragdolls, etc.), but I'm just not getting the FPS I experienced when first applying the config weeks ago. What might be the problem?

BTW Is it okay when I change some crucial settings after installing the config (I need fast weapon switch, minimized hud, minimized viewmodel, hit sounds, ...) - does it cause problems to the config when I change these settings in the options afterwards?

Using Xubuntu 16.04, Lenovo B560 with Nvidia 310m card (340 proprietary driver).

Did you update the config at all? I might have messed something up for your system in a later version.

Also, it is fine to customize the config with personal settings.

Can't believe you watched the VOD, haha.

I liked comp performance but I didn't like seeing the blocks on the environment. Ended up going with comp quality plus modules for shadows and such.

comp shouldn't have blocky textures, it was probably some lingering issue with your config that should be fixed now that you set everything up. But I guess compquality is fine too, it just has a bit higher quality lighting and effects.

So I can run an older version constantly without updating the config? Because back then, after the new install I surely downloaded the most recent version, as I've been doing since. I thought you are supposed to do that.
As I can see now in the config archive on github, there was a new version coming out quite often around that time. Luckily, I know the exact date I used the first config - March 17, so I will try the older config preceding this date.
Thx for the tip!

Well no, this is just for troubleshooting to figure out why you're getting less FPS. If we know which version you got good FPS in, we can then isolate what change could have reduced your FPS.

Well, I am sure I wrote a reply on a reddit post to a guy who advised me to use your config the same day I found out how good it was, because I remember closing the game after two matches to write that reply with joy. And that reply says 19 days ago.
So I would think that the version must have been 6.5.0-b9 (released 21 days ago) and not 6.5.0 (released 18 days ago) as stated on github. But can't be 100% sure about that.
So there's no point in trying out the older version now, it wouldn't work properly, right?

You should try out the older version to see if it's really because of a config update. If you get around the same performance as you get with the latest version, then it's an issue caused by something else we will have to figure out.

Despite having the config valve is still forcing a high shader setting even in casual, is there a command i can change to stop this?

It's not Valve, it's the config, because it actually increases FPS unless you have a bad GPU. You can see more in the mastercomfig wiki , the command is `mat_reducefillrate 1` (disclosure - I've added it (⟃ ͜ʖ ⟄) ) : https://github.com/mastercoms/mastercomfig/wiki/Misconceptions#bad-cvars
If you do have a bad GPU and want shader detail set to low, just use the bad GPU addon.

Hi Mastercoms, the black and yellow caution lines as seen in this image used to be able to be turned off via r_renderoverlayfragment 0 I think. But now regardless of this setting, they stay. Are there any other commands which can turn these off?

mastercomsGibbus_DickusWell, I am sure I wrote a reply on a reddit post to a guy who advised me to use your config the same day I found out how good it was, because I remember closing the game after two matches to write that reply with joy.

Tried the older versions, don't see much difference. I'm starting to get suspicious it might be some problem with my graphics driver or smth, I don't know :-/
It's still better than just default TF2 with low settings, but the difference back than was very significant. I put it like this - when I move my mouse on the desktop, or in the game menus, just slightly faster, it's not smooth but I rather see "multiple cursors" along the way (not optical illusion). And that time, the change was noticeable even in the menus, the mouse was smooth as well as the menu animations. And gameplay-wise the same, when I moved the mouse to look around, I could see the trasition. Now the picture gets "distorted" along the way.

Loving this so far! Does anyone know if there's a well-documented project like this for CS:GO, or where I should start looking? I know the graphics customization is comparatively limited in CS, but I'm still looking for a performance config with explanations of settings.

I don't think there is one at the moment, but I think it's only natural for an extensive config framework like mastercomfig to evolve and expand to new games eventually.

fizzwhizI've noticed that in the ragdolls_off module, you've set cl_ragdoll_forcefade back to 1, which I presume fixes the ragdoll bug, but why is cl_ragdoll_fade_time set to -3 and cl_ragdoll_physics_enable to 1?

I'm testing out some settings for ragdolls to avoid ragdolls from not being cleared properly.

fizzwhizBesides, how useful are the _up and _down functions anyway? They seem to only add clutter to the config.

I think they're pretty useful for debugging and choosing a module easily. Could you explain how it adds clutter?

fizzwhizThe comp preset enables trilinear filtering. How does this help?

It doesn't help performance, but many people have said that bilinear filtering is distracting and that they're used to trilinear. Max performance has bilinear set, though.
