like did anyone not see this coming when rawkus and jake announced their interview was happening

like talking to parents about esports is enough of a crongefest, let alone a morning talk-show host

honestly the intro sections seemed a little cringy yes but the questions she asked weren't really loaded, she didn't scoff at them and it wasn't about grilling them and trying to cater to the middle-aged mum "video games are a waste of time" thing. the comparisons to real life athletes/sports orgs like the NFL were really only there to explain it to the audience

its not like she didn't know this existed, as the face of the show she as to try to be as close as her audience, so she acts in my opinion as if she didn't know that people receive money to play a video game, because her audience is probably mostly formed by people that don't know this exists. And the choice of overwatch over other games that made it a real thing "esports" way before is, if you catched it at the end she says that one of the teams is owned by the CEO of Comcast company. I think.

breaking: popular media outlet is dumb for the nth time
does this surprise you? outlets like these have been trying to discredit video games for a long time.

Is just old people being old people, even the men supporting these teams financially are just looking at the money, they don't give two shits about the game.

Dollycalls them kids even though they're like 23

http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-24173194

BBCChild psychologists are being given a new directive which is that the age range they work with is increasing from 0-18 to 0-25.

...

There are three stages of adolescence - early adolescence from 12-14 years, middle adolescence from 15-17 years and late adolescence from 18 years and over.

I can kinda see both sides of this coin, technically speaking brain development and hormonal activity don't really reach "adult" stage until 25-26. Source

At the same time, personally it's really odd to still get called Kid while maintaining a full time job, getting associate level certifications, having a child of my own, being married, and owning my own home and car. While also being 24...

It's not that strange given how most people who are supposed to be college aged still act like they're in middle school and essentially use going to college as an excuse to extend their own adolescence.

prob chose overwatch because it's the most publicly appealing game atm, and blizzard probably paid them off.

wasnt as terrible as most of the other television esports features ive seen though, like these

they picked overwatch because for some reason overwatch is the only game that any publisher actually advertises and advertises heavily as an esport

valve doesnt advertise dota 2 or csgo or tf2 at all because they're lazy fucks

who gives a shit about hots, wow, hs, or starcraft esports lmao

smash actually gets some reasonable coverage on local stations (e.g. hbox on his local fox news, and his local fox again) but it's still only a grassroots esport

riot markets league only so much

and every other esport is irrelevant

It's actually not that bad it's more just a mainstream perception / reaction to a new form of media, as the lady said the parent company of the owners of the TV network, Comcast even own a franchise in OWL, it's a good publicity stunt for OWL and eSports in particular, the lad Jake does pretty well and if the interviewer didn't seem to have a biased agenda, just acted as the medium for the generation of normies who don't understand. This will be commonplace over the next 5 years, media like this to try and legitimize eSports in the mainstream and there will be actually commentators with an agenda who will scrutinize it in a negative way.

Not relevant to TF2 though since we're not an eSport :tf:
