Antimoonvladliterally the exact opposite is true, the average skill level of this game is way lower than it was in earlier years
Based on what? I hear that claim made all the time, that tf2 players are worse than they used to be, but I never see any evidence to back that up. Your average 6's player nowadays has way more experience than your average 6's player from 5 years ago, and has more opportunity to gain experience through services like pugchamp and faceit.
If you think that players like oPlaiD or Relic would be able to hang in invite nowadays, you're either delusional or intentionally lying to yourself.
i can't reply without sounding like it's shittalk, so i won't

vladbecause current players like catface are better than seagull, quad, tlr, etc. right?
Maybe not bottom invite playes, but guys like Sigh, Paddie, Botmode and Marmaloo would roll quad and TLR.
Botmode and Sigh specifically showed during their time on Froyo that both of them were capable players alongside b4nny, shade, and blaze, not far, if at all, behind those 3 in terms of skill. B4nny beat TLR and Seagull on LAN 4 years ago and has put in thousands of hours and played over 10 seasons of invite to improve since then. The players at his level now are better than the players at his level then.

i think you're confusing being bad with being overrated, it's not like people think players on bottom invite teams are world champion material or smt lol

Thing is in eu bottom invite teams become ETF2L champion material in a matter of seasons bc of the lack of competition

Pyyyour posted 3 months ago, platinum posts today, harb played a pug recently, and seagull streamed a source game not too long ago. Mix^ s28 confirmed?
In all seriousness though, @Platinum (if you're still reading this), what would it take for you to actually return to tf2?

No esea lans, barely any competition at highest levels of play lets be honest with ourselves, new players they need to learn & prob play with. Why would they ever comeback until Valve make a tf3 with a focus on esports? You already got tf2 players making 6 figures playing OW and being successful in other games (most I can recall from old guard is nukkye now playing on a decent csgo team if we don't wanna mention the old tf2 players now playing ow), why would they especially come back lmao.
Just be happy one of the tf2 gods just posted in this thread and be happy for where they all went.

E: Oh I actually thought this topic was about underrated players. Now I'm sad :(
Double E: I guess I can think of someone who was overrated. Maybe wltrs? He has had an amazing history from the early days of TF2 and carrying that momentum to Epsilons golden age for example, but in his later days he was absolutely not what he used to be and probably rated too high for what his actual skill was. This was apparent in the fact he was kicked pretty fast from kaidus' Reason Gaming project in early 2015.

Kaidus is also mentioned in those “who’s the best demo” threads and that couldn’t be further from the truth

I definitely don't think that's the case now neccessarily but in the old days it may have been true. What makes you say that?
