Yes. 100million from the company behind the game is insane and the only other game that can even come close off the top of my head is Dota 2 with their international, which if i'm correct is funded in large part by the community.

I'm sick of these casual AF games that are terrible esports getting these ridiculous prize pools and level of dev support while we are left to sit here and rot.

it shows how a younger average audience influences how esports games are. Games that are relatively easy and validate you no matter if you're the best in the world or play for 1 hour a day getting colossal amounts of money, and games that require a long grind but are rewarding are sadly neglected. bc 12 year olds don't have that motivation due to them actually not growing up with quote on quote 'harder' games.

you're underestimating fortnite's building & editing mechanics; top-level competitive play is far removed from casual play. just like with tf2, any semi-competent player can stomp pubs. i guarantee you that the game's building & counter-building metas haven't been fully realized yet.

Money's more likely to come from tencent than epic

I'm happy for epic their game has this much success, they have been a great company so far

With that said i don't get how one can like observing a BR game where the "action" happens at 10s of different spots

I didn't say it wasn't a hard game but it doesn't take decades to master like cs or tf2

how are you going to be mad that another game gets a ton of dev support
you guys should be happy for fortnite that it has devs that care enough to have a 100 mil prize pool

that remains to be seen. i don't think anyone's currently in the position to say how long fortnite takes to "master" considering that no one knows optimal strategy in all circumstances & everyone is constantly pushing mechanical barriers when it comes to build fights.

however, i can assure you that neither TF2 nor CS take "decades to master". i wouldn't be surprised if it takes players about the same amount of time to become competitively competent on fortnite as it does tf2.

tf2 is hard to master but not hard to actually get into the higher divs, and id only say its hard to master bc no one puts in the same level of time and dedication it takes to compete with b4nny/gets his results

thats literally every competitive game
people don't understand how much time top level players actually put into a game

Does not change the fundamentally non competitive nature of randomized loot.
Allso from a spectator and casting point of view battle royal has to be a complete nightmare.

randomized loot is definitely a hurdle in squads, but it can be mitigated with defensive early-game play.
loot distribution is almost a non-factor in solos and duos outside of suboptimal drop & naive, hyper-aggressive early-game strategies.
with that said, i wouldn't be opposed to static loot spawns. i'm really excited to see how far they take custom games.

also, epic games' replay system is most certainly going to be repurposed for real-time casting so i'm not too worried about that. their replay system is actually incredible.

when are they gonna realize that BR games are a complete snoozefest to watch?

these games won't be pushed to their limits in a BR game mode where the optimal strategy in most situations is to play passive

I dont think you have watched the esports las vegas event. Playing passive is sometimes the safer play but unlike tf2 their isnt a stalemate and people are forced to push in towards each other and seeing how they push and clutch is honestly so fun to watch atleast for me.

Edit: Plus the game is very easy to understand and watch so even if you have never played the game before you can watch it and understand it to some level unlike many other games

and they call overwatch a bad spectator esport. now we have a prize pool in the millions for a battle royale game.

how do you cast/spectate a battle royale of dozens of players???

I feel like watching comp Fortnite is somewhat similar to watching baseball. Super slow paced but when things do happen it's usually entertaining.

100 Million is ridiculous. Completely unnecessary too if you ask me, because fortnite stream watching jake paulers couldn't care less whether what they're watching is competitive or not. They could've literally spent 1/10th of that money to hire all the popular fortnite streamers and youtubers in exclusive contracts and siphoned their views money until the fad blows over (no more than 2 or 3 years according to my calculations)
