The museum that I work at's building was constructed in 1890, as a sort of department store for railroad shops (basically whatever goods came in by rail) but by 1917, those goods had become so ubiquitous that they no longer needed their own special store and were instead spread throughout all the shops in town. Then, in the 1920s, it became a car dealership (cars were tiny and dealerships were often strictly indoor affairs), but the crash in 29' took them out, and a local family that specialized in furniture making, and undertaking, moved in. This wasn't all that uncommon, as whoever made a chair or table could also make a coffin, and coffins tended to be a fairly reliable business so if your fancy chair didn't sell, you could still stuff somebody in a pine box.

The entire basement was also remodeled to accommodate embalming services, which had become extremely common after 1907 (various laws about just burying grandma in the backyard and its illegality were enacted at the state level here in Indiana). They lasted in that location until 1954 when Sears took over the building and did Sears stuff there until 1983 - whereupon the Museum eventually moved in.

When they were remodeling to facilitate the museum, the contractors had to take pictures of the entire process, being as the building was flagged as an historic landmark. "Orbs" as spooky-ghosty enthusiasts call them are legion in every photograph - I like to think they're just dust particles getting caught by the flash, but there's just no convincing some people.

Furthermore, the entire basement is still set up to embalm corpses. The first thing they did was fill in, with concrete, the pit wherein bodies were drained. In the 1930s the way you prepared a corpse was to essentially lower it down on a gurney and puncture some important arteries, and then let the blood and other fluids naturally drain out by manipulating the gurney.

On top of that, there is the full skeleton of a serial killer in boxes - I've labeled them "Hubbard Bones" on one side, and leave the unlabeled side exposed so I can scare interns with them. Basically, I'll ask them to see what is in those boxes and they'll go open them. I've positioned his skull in such a way that he is cheerily saying "Hi!" to them - or at least what I would imagine would be his cheerily saying "Hi!" with no skin n' such. He killed 7 people in 1854, was publicly executed on the courthouse lawn, and then his body was parted out for illegal dissection, and then used in the old high school's science lab as an anatomy piece until 1924 when his bones were turned over to the museum. We also have his death mask, made by a local doctor, which includes sick sideburns.

A ghost hunter from Indianapolis who has a podcast or internet show of some sort (I didn't look at it) asked to come do a show. The only spooky thing he found was a "cold spot" just before entering the embalming room, at which point I had to ruin his fun and point out that there is a cold air output vent just above where he was standing that runs 24/7 as a means of climate controlling the basement which we use for artifact storage.

So in short, no ghosties, but if there were such a thing, I probably should have encountered one by now.

i used to go ghost hunting with my friends all the time in high school

we visited a place called morgan's corner which had that urban legend about the boyfriend + girlfriend making out surrounding it among other murders ( https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/the-boyfriends-death/ ), it makes a lot more sense here because it's a pathway with a ton of huge trees with huge vines hanging down from the canopy

it was a few friends and i in the middle of the night, and we were just walking down this strip of road that has a bunch of stories behind it, it was dead silent and we were just joking around about how we're going to find terrible things or nothing throughout this walk, all of the lights leading from the opening of the road to the end was out, so it was pitch black since there's not really any homes nearby and it's just a pathway full of massive trees

we were walking along and my friend started getting super spooked, so he wanted to turn around. we convinced him to keep moving for a minute or two more. when we did eventually turn around, about 100 ft away a bunch of the trees fell down behind us where he got spooked and blocked the road, but literally none of us heard anything and it was completely silent that night

if we were standing there we would have all been crushed and died

the path/trees looked like this lmao

https://i.imgur.com/EDG96UI.jpg

that's a two car lane for perspective of how big those trees are, and the fact they fell behind us spooked us pretty bad
i told this story a ton of times and a lot of people call them ghost trees

i took a short video when we first started the walk and you can't really see anything but cameras back then were nowhere near as good lmao

First off, I would like to say I am not a believer in the supernatural/spirits, but this one experience I had certainly made my mind spin.

It was the summer of 2014, and I had been invited to a reunion party with some of my classmates and friends. I decided to look the place up, and I thought it looked absolutely beautiful. I consider myself a lover of historic places.
According to property records, the home itself was constructed in 1683 in eastern Pennsylvania. It was just under 2,000 sqft. and had around five acres of property. There was one giant tree in the front yard, rumored to be planted by William Penn.

https://m.imgur.com/a/HIznqSU

So, the reunion ensued. It had been a few hours now, and it was about 1 AM. I decided to go use the restroom, so I left to go into the house. The bathroom door was tricky as fuck to open and close, since it had a metal latch. The door looked as if it was multiple pieces of wood held together by a metal strip.

Once I left the bathroom, I heard floorboards creaking upstairs, so I decided to check it out. I saw one of my friends, Ryan, go into the house earlier, so I thought it may have been him. Turns out, nobody was up there. I just threw it aside, blaming it on the house being old.

To my interest, it felt like it dropped a few degrees as I went upstairs. I got spooked, so I decided to go back down to my friends. I felt a cold disturbance brush up against my back as I was going down. At that point I was terrified, so I tripped and fell. My right hand hurt like hell, but it was almost pitch black in there, excluding the outside lights.

I ran back outside and told my friends what happened, and they thought I was full of shit and started making jokes about it. I blanked out for a second, feeling a sudden rise of anxiousness. I may have been having an anxiety attack at that point, even with the comfort of my friends. I looked back, and from behind the edge of the windowsill, I saw a very white face with a scar on the right cheek and frightening eyes. The urgency would not let go of me, the grip on me was so tight to the point where I had trouble breathing. At that point, I got up and left in a hurry.

A few days later, I got a call from the son of the owner of the house, Neil. He told me that he had also been experiencing things around the house, catching orbs on camera and hearing voices. One time, he was upstairs and heard a voice saying "Let me out". He had two friends over, so he went back downstairs and told them to stop making jokes. They kept implying they said nothing at all.

To this day, I still have no idea what exactly happened. Anxiety and fear can influence anything, which is why supernatural phenomena is so difficult to explain.

Every time a friend that believes in ghosts explains a spooky, paranormal experience of his to me I feel like everything he describes is just shit that's slightly out of the ordinary and can actually be explained under normal circumstances.
