lmao how is global warming even real just get the whole population to move their air conditioning units outside
This issue annoys me so much but it has been so many years of evidence and campaigning and education now that it’s clear that people just don’t care. Shit genuinely has me mad, but to what avail? I have all but given up caring, it’s too exhausting.
Also I think there’s evidence that we’re past the point of the damage being reversible, all we can do now is limit damage.

our politicians are bought, many support the deregulation of the gas and oil industry. although the clear position of the left is against the burning of fossil fuels, republican party members in the US are fervently opposed to the idea that climate change is happening to begin with. even if you could get a conservative to agree that climate change is happening, they will pivot, claiming that humans have no influence on the climate of god's green earth.
i don't know how it is in the rest of the world, but most of the people running the united states government don't accept the idea of human caused climate change. it's infinitely more difficult to find and enact the solution to a problem that half of the government is willingly ignorant to.
here's an article showing the demographic of senators & reps who deny climate change

here's another great image i saw a few days ago visualizing the severity and reality of human caused climate change

Politicians are not going to solve the problem. Their best idea is a carbon tax ffs, essentially bankrupting fossil fuel factories, killing jobs without replacement, and hurting every other business that produces C02, while Africa, South East Asia, and South America industrializes heavily and rapidly and quickly replaces any emissions that the 1st world stopped producing. Essentially these 3 huge sections of the planet will increasingly output more and more emissions and it will take many decades for them to stop when they become more technologically advanced and our politicians best answer is to take your money or encourage/force these countries to output less (which they constantly break- international law is a joke). I think we're pretty much screwed for at least the next 50 years with the amount of C02 that will be in the air but I have faith that the STEM field will solve our problems along the way.
The industrial revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
While the US has an awful attitude towards this issue I don't think this is a very US-centric problem anymore (or at least, it won't be soon.) More places in the world are beginning to heavily industrialize (China and India for two large examples) and anything the US has or will do is just lost in scale honestly, which is all the more terrifying considering how much impact is seen already. Considering this is one of the few worldwide and indiscriminate issues I would hope it would have more of a spotlight for current events.
The future of our planet lies solely in the hands of America and China. The sad thing is that China has a far more aggressive plan to cut emissions than America. Under Trump one could argue that the US doesn't even have a plan to cut down on emissions. Sad times.
Remember guys, we need this planet if we want to keep playing video games! So consider that your motivation to save the world.
i wanna die
i either care about the situation and get depressed cuz we arent making any progress or don't care and get depressed cuz the world is going to shit and i'm going to have to live in it

The issue is that the masses, even people who actually try to help against global warming, actually do a miniscule amount to prevent it. Having to face a problem and properly tackling it is hard, however fooling yourself into thinking you're part of some sort of change, is easy. Who needs to radically decrease all their emmissions when you can buy organic fruits instead of non-organic fruits? Right?

He says, living in a wealthy post-industrial society and having both the free time, education and material resources to post on an internet forum about video games.
Look dude I'm as much for calling out problems as much as the next guy but if you think that one of the most important stepping stones in human history that gave way to the largest amounts of wealth created EVER, that you and I are benefiting from right now is a humanitarian "disaster" then quite frankly you're either blissfully naive or grossly ungrateful.
Is it perfect? Not by any stretch of the imagination. Is it better than a life spent performing back-breaking labour on farmland as peasants, with the only thing putting you out of your misery being dying at 30 from a tooth infection? Absolutely.
It's early days yet and we're still working out the kinks. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

the type of people who don't care about problems of this nature are practically saying "i don't care what kind of future my kids have, ill be dead by then anyways"

If you're throwing ice cubes on a fire, you may not be doing much, but you're still technically fighting the fire. And you're doing more than someone who's doing nothing. Imagine if a million people did the same thing!
No, it's not a fire hose, but don't shit on people because they're not helping ENOUGH for your standards

Out of context it may look like this, but it's a small step toward getting people to think about what they do with their trash and recycling. If they say "hey using straws is bad" maybe they'll start thinking "maybe I should recycle this instead of just throwing it out, or maybe I should use reusable containers instead of buying disposable garbage."

maybe if our leaders would take global warming as a serious issue and won't take meaningless weather changes to prove their non-existent point :):):)
the individual responsibility meme seems like a planned diversion. but idk, i don't expect any major industrial changes until we're right on the brink of being absolutely undeniably fucked. to address the real problems you're talking about entire countries becoming irrelevant on the world market, most probably including my own.
(i'm not a neocon or anything btw, i wish this weren't true)

"Our leaders" aren't the only ones with a responsibility to the planet, take a look at your own actions as well before you go start suggesting some unnamed elected officials should take 100% of the blame.
