there are new bots in casual servers that kick users, reset their stats and mess with the new steam API thing. This isn’t just a normal issue that you can easily avoid by leaving the server, these bots can fuck you up only by just being in a server with them.

From this r/tf2 thread and Mechawreck's follow-up tweet it sounds like the stats resetting was just a glitch with steam and not a hack.
