The Newbie Mix Team Drive is back for S29 of ESEA
For the last two seasons, the Newbie Mixes team has ran the team drive which has given new players the opportunity to experience their first seasons of ESEA with guidance from assigned mentors. This season, the Newbie Mixes crew plans to keep this streak going and hopefully provide more players the chance to play in ESEA S29 Open.
Similar to seasons past, there is a way for nearly everyone to get involved in the drive and we need as many people as we can get to put something forward for the future of TF2’s competitive scene. Here are some of the ways you can help:
MENTOR A NEWBIE TEAM
Newbie Mixes has always utilized mentors to guide newer players and make sure they make the right decisions. As a mentor, you will be assigned to a single team and it will be your job to guide them through everything a new group of players needs to know about handling and being part of a team AND how to play 6s as coordinated as possible. Mentoring will likely only be 1-2 hours each week. You will be expected to coordinate a map/demo review with your newbie team once a week, or something of equal instructional value to guide them through the season. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please sign up! We want to provide the best experience to our teams and we can better accomplish that goal if we can handpick the best out of a wide selection.
DONATE YOUR PREMIUM CODES
Everybody’s been there. It’s the midseason and someone can’t play the match that week for whatever reason. Now, not only do you need to find someone new to play that week (and maybe more), but they also need ESEA Premium to be able to play. Having these codes in reserve allows our teams and their mentors one less thing to stress about and can buy time for a better solution.
SPREAD THE WORD
It’s often understated, but spreading the news of newbie mixes is how we are able to fill up teams with committed and invested players. This doesn’t have to be some big announcement (although we would appreciate it). All it really comes down to is letting unaware players know that this is available to them. Anybody who is on the fence about entering the competitive scene might be pushed over if they knew the drive existed.
Some of you might be wondering about the donation drive to pay for Premium for our teams. We have had such a generous amount of donations from previous Team Drives that for this drive, we are confident that we can pay for all of our players this season. Thank you to everyone who has ever donated from previous seasons! Donations will likely resume next season.
If you’re interested in volunteering as a mentor, message me or Mallory on TFTV or Steam and include a link to your ESEA profile and your preferred email. If you would like to donate premium codes or have any questions, feel free to message me or Mallory via TFTV or Steam. Questions from newbies should be asked in this thread or in the appropriate discord channel. We look forward to seeing new faces join in on the fun ESEA has to offer.
Thank you.

The drive is in good hands this year, help them out if you can!

Alright folks, we're a week in and we have a couple of teams and a number of players signed up, but we can definitely push for more! Some simple ways you can help:
- Just promoting newbie mixes helps new players find our pugs on Fridays and get hooked! If they can learn with us, they then can gain the confidence to take steps into the community on their own. If you pub and see a new player asking about competitive in your pub, take a moment to suggest they look us up. If you stream and have new players watch you, shout our drive out as an opportunity for them to get involved. :D
- Volunteer to coach! If the idea of coaching daunts you, we're totally cool with you bringing a friend so you can co-coach and spread the responsibility to have more fun. Just so long as you're both there to help/entertain the new players, we don't mind coaching buddies.
- If you have an experience in newbie mixes when you first started out, please consider sharing your experience here or on reddit to encourage new people to try it out.

after I took a huge break from 6s I played a couple newbie mixes to get the basics back before s28. coaches are super helpful and you will get better much faster than trying to figure it out yourself. would recommend at least trying out the friday pugs if you are thinking about getting into 6s

Haven't coached in a long time. Thinking about taking a newbie mix team under my wing.

I want these newbies to have a dedicated mentor. Personally, my first newbie mix team died before the season even started because our coach decided to stop coaching us due to some reasons. I don’t want any newbies to go through what I had to go through, so I hope that this seasons batch of newbies doesn’t have to deal with that kind of disappointment.

Last week of sign-ups! We have some good sign-ups and good coaches, but we can definitely accommodate more of both! If you're not sure about your availability, you can always sign up as a sub on a newbie mixes team, and likely get some playtime in the season.
@Vanxi, we will try to put the most fitting teams together, and will try to provide stability and replacements when possible.

We appreciate your interest in donating to Newbie Mixes but money donations are not necessary for this drive since we have been able to save from previous ones. We are likely to resume donations during the next drive. We do encourage you to spread the news of the drive while there is still a bit of time left. Thank you either way!

The drive is officially done, but if you squeak your sign up by tomorrow early afternoon, you might still make it on a team!

Alright, a belated update! We put together 5 newbie teams, plus one whole team that assembled under our banner but built their team by themselves. So that's 6 new teams, with about 40 new players plus a few returning players in the season!
Thank you very much to Daffodil, Jaaay, Phantom, Laxson, Grape Juice III and Qualia, who will be coaching the teams this season, and thank you everyone who offered to help out! Stay tuned for future announcements because we've got a few other events in the planning stages right now.
This season we will be trying something new - we will be creating newbie sign-ups even into the season, so that late-commers will have the opportunity to sign up to sub or main on the newbie teams, should they require another player.

Please direct any new players who did not join the drive in time to be put on a team here. There is no guarantee that they will play this season, however, this thread is where our newbie teams will be looking through to find subs, ringers, and replacement starters should the need arise!
