After five articles, ranging from the team's roster announcement to the addition of broKing, the current iteration of Faint Gaming's Invite roster has collapsed, with Faint Gaming's former Invite spot now vacant. The team's disbandment seems to have occurred following the team's match against froyotech and the departure of yight from the ESEA roster.
Faint Gaming is no stranger to roster turbulence, with the organization's last Invite roster crumbling due to conflicts between the team members.
phlps, one of Faint Gaming's former Scouts, opened up about their time on the team in a teamfortress.tv thread, detailing the events that ultimately led to the team's internal collapse. According to phlps, yight previously left the roster after a conflict with the team, leading xaler to cut Deathy without any consultation, believing him to be the root of the team's problems.
With the team's Pocket soldier off the roster, the team scrambled to find a replacement, as a backup was not lined up prior. The team narrowed down the possible candidates to trippa and broKing, with the latter player being added before discussion could come into fruition.
yight reportedly has yet another conflict with the players two days later, with phlps claiming that he "[realized] that broKing and sandblast was a mistake." Consequently, xaler also told his team of his desire to leave the roster, so Faint are forced to use dingo for their match against froyotech.
Shortly after the team falls 1-5 against froyotech, xaler apparently was upset with the team, resulting in half of the players leaving the roster. With half of the team gone, the remaining half left accordingly, resulting in the slot emptying and the Faint iteration finally coming to a close.
Team leader sandblast intended to reveal his side of the story in a TwitLonger, but was hesitant to release his statement publicly. Nonetheless, an early draft of the statement was acquired by teamfortress.tv from a source close to the team. In the draft, sandblast claims that he wanted to keep the roster stable for this season, but were pressured by xaler and yight to cut players that they deemed "not ready for Top 4 Invite."
After replacing tojo with yight at the recommendation of xaler, both xaler and yight pushed sandblast to cut catface in favor of phlps, as catface could not attend Episode III and the rest of the team supposedly wanted to take the roster to the LAN event. Wanting to keep the team alive, sandblast followed through, bringing phlps onto the roster.
The remainder of sandblast's recollection aligns with that of phlps', with sandblast providing some extra insight on certain events, such as that yight and xaler did not want trippa on the roster leading to the team swiftly bringing on broKing, and that the team only had one roster transaction left for the rest of the season after yight left the roster for the second time.
sandblast ended his statement accepting that he did not act quickly enough before the team's roster changes led to the team crumbling.
I take full blame for two people being extremely immature and somehow letting it get this far. After Season 26, I should have distanced myself away from these players so this would have been avoided, but I wanted to play with my "boy" xaler. It seemed too good to be true but I was fooled again and let xaler and yight cut my roster away and I did not stop it. I let the community down by allowing this and if I make a team again or join a team, it won't be with people who are this emotionally unstable and can't allow to lose or not make playoffs and create a safety net by cutting people to get better.
The owner of Faint Gaming, Hobin, released a statement on teamfortress.tv regarding his own view of the team's dissolution.
Regardless, we do wish the best for every team currently staying in Invite and we hope to return next season with a roster that will be more consistent, and become our team for seasons to come. I understand I've said that in previous posts and will get "memed" on because of it, but in all honesty, I put a lot of trust in players no matter who they are (just my personality) and I don't plan on giving up on the game by any means. We are going to focus on a better plan of picking up teams and keeping them stable. Again, I do apologize to everyone who supports us. We promise to be better and impress next season, that is all I wanted to say on the subject.
The former roster of Faint Gaming prior to disbandment was:
- Scout: sandblast
- Scout: phlps
- Roamer: yight
- Pocket: broKING
- Demoman: xaler
- Medic: bear
Update: sandblast released his Twitlonger statement shortly after this article was published.
