its not really any big consolation, but the curiosity of many people on those imageboards into seeing the video has woken up a disgust for the events that have happened and many are questioning what exactly they thought they were supporting, especially if they interact with the ones cheering.

The guy literally picked a list of people with big audiences to make them put out statements and get more attention, you're retarded if you think pewdiepie or whoever triggered a mass shooting lmfao

besides, as we all know it was Chelsea Clinton's fault

the last time new zealand had a shooting of over 10 people was in 1990, before that it was 1951. This shit just doesn't happen in my country. can we stop talking about alt-right and far left bullshit and just love each other instead

if lives are potentially saved by helping these kids grow the fuck up, i think that's quite positive, as far as lingering effects go

pyrotechnicReerothe guy said subscribe to pewdiepie before he went in and did it wtf
this is the funniest shit i've ever seen. pewdiepie is a racist and the world in 2019 is maybe dumber than ever

It's funny that someone yelled out a meme before killing 50 people? If you seriously can find that funny in any way you need serious help.

Edit:
Also apparently Reddit banned r/gore and and r/watchpeopledie
https://www.reddit.com/r/Gore/
https://www.reddit.com/r/watchpeopledie/

Tbh I think it's a good thing. I visited those subs a few times and it was nothing but a bunch of edgy degens laughing at people dying in the comments.

God dammit, that woman was begging for help, begging him not to do this, and he had absolutely no intention of letting her live. 49 lives in one day, they just wanted to do right by their families, raise their sons and daughters, leave the world a better place. and this man just ended all of that. Who the fuck cares about pewdiepie in this situation, 49 families will never be the same and there are people who would fuck with their memories. It's god damn shameful and you know it. Just stop, you know somewhere in your conscience you are letting yourself down.

Am I reading it wrong or is your stance "trying to look for the root cause of this issue or discussing it further is bad, you should just be sad when it happens and leave it at that"?

It being an absolutely fucked up and inhuman thing to do is exactly why people look for a reason. I don't think the focus on pewdiepie is justified but it's absolutely fair to try and figure out "what led him to do this? Is this a freak occurrence, or is it coming from somewhere likely to lead to more terrorists?" precisely because no one wants anyone else to die in this type of situation.

Do you understand how hard it is for a human being to hear someone beg for help, look them in the eye, and kill them? It is hard wired in our instincts to not be able to do that, that is why soldiers need to be trained to kill. This man just did that with absolutely no problem, with the efficiency of a well trained killing machine. he did not need the outside help, he had his own fucked up deranged agenda, his manifesto is an absolute train wreck of ideas, he had no motive other than to just fuck with our society. If you actually look into all of it, this man just decided to go on a killing spree, and throw away his life and the life of 49 others. It was all a joke to him, he was laughing the entire video while he was running people over and shooting a shotgun out his window.

I get we want to make sense of tragedies, it really is a comfort to be able to say, oh well if we change this, then we'll all be ok! But this person wanted to hurt us, and we can't let that divide us. We have to stand strong, together, and accept this tragedy happened, and do our best to heal this wound. It won't be easy, 49 lives can't just be replaced, but we are a resilient race, and we can pick up the pieces and become stronger because of it.

so were the millions of people complicit in the holocaust (including the thousands who were literally carrying it out) literally another species of human being? were they all just pure sociopaths? or do years of dehumanization and racist ideology eventually create people like this?

or put a different way: it is a statistical fact that right wing terrorism has been massively on the rise in the last few years. if this violence is just senseless and impossible to contextualize, then we must conclude that each and every one of these acts of right wing terrorism was committed by someone who, if not for the present moment enabling them to pick up abhorrent racial views on top of everything else, would've still killed a bunch of people anyways, just for completely inscrutable and pure nihilistic reasons. I'm sorry, but I just don't believe that.

tragedies will always happen, but if you're gonna tell me that the way muslims are depicted in the media and pop culture, let alone in these great replacement/death of europe screeds on the internet, has absolutely 0 effect on how likely a shooting like this is, I just can't co-sign that view.

Bluesfrenzied soccermom manifesto

Yeah the guy was mentally ill, he killed people.... etc... and a discussion is definitely worth having, especially given how much information was out there immediately and the scary social implications this act of terror has. I made this account to post on here because once I saw this thread was made, there were going to be many misconceptions about everything related to the shooter. And there continues to be many misconceptions, that is precisely why we should be talking, and not going in for a collective group hug like you desire. For example:

https://i.imgur.com/hrWM7FG.png

Why should we be silent when this guy is so blatantly hellbent on creating chaos?

I agree with a lot of your statements, but I wanna just say somethings since not every issue black and white (i'm sure you know that but I wanna just throw that sentiment in)

#1 Not every nazi was purely a nazi. Germany had been going through tough times economically. Also the nazi party was gaining power, so to join a group that offered a solution (not a good one mind you) to the economic problems of germany, and the fact that they were gaining power such it would be tempting to join because either A you want in on that power or B be forced to join because you don't want to be an outcast.

#2 Everything you have said could be flipped flop for both sides. Many outlets Demonize what would be normal conservatives as well as christian faith and radical Muslims have done attacks in the name of their religion or intolerance (Orlando Nightclub shooting and boston bombing, etc.) Not saying that any attacks on white supremacy is wrong btw or that people need to calm down on the white supremacy issue. Anything bad should be shut down no matter how many times it happens.

EDIT:
Basically issues like these are hard to put blame on someone/something. It's just important to just not immediately shut down a side for voicing their opinion

Corunsonhow the fuck did the ok meme become a white supremacist symbol in the media's eyes?

from wikipedia:

Show Content
Wikipedia - OK gestureBeginning in 2017, the gesture was at the center of an online prank in meme culture related to alt-right and white supremacy originating from anonymous message board posts on the website 4chan. The Boston Globe reported that users on 4chan's "/pol/" (Politically Incorrect) board were instructed in February 2017 to "flood Twitter and other social media websites...claiming that the OK hand sign is a symbol of white supremacy,” as part of a campaign dubbed "Operation O-KKK". The supposed association of the gesture with white supremacy derives from the assertion that the three upheld fingers resemble a 'W' and the circle made with the thumb and forefinger resemble the head of a 'P', together standing for "white power". While some members of the alt-right used the symbol after the launch of the 4chan campaign, it remains ambiguous whether or not it was being used to communicate genuine adherence to white supremacy, or with deliberately ironic motives. In May 2017, the Anti-Defamation League published an article asking:

Has the simple thumb-and-forefinger 'OK' hand gesture become a common white supremacist hand sign? Not quite, but it has become a popular gesture used by people across several segments of the right and far right—including some actual white supremacists—who generally use it to trigger reactions. [...] Only if the gesture occurs in context with other clear indicators of white supremacy can one draw that conclusion.

By 2018, a number of people were accused of signaling support for white supremacist ideology in publicly displaying the gesture. For example, the U.S. Coast Guard disciplined an employee who flashed the symbol on camera in the background of a newscast in September 2018.

absolutely senseless and tragic. i can't understand what would possess a person to murder 2 buildings full of strangers living peacefully and minding their own business.

the reason why the media is reacting like that in regards to the hand signs being a symbol of white suprematism is because the actual power of a meme is something completely new to them. same thing happened to pepe the frog. that hand sign is associated with internet culture as like a thing that youtuber prankers do and they dont understand it and neither do their journalists because they weren’t brought up on the internet like a lot of us are. theyre just confused

i mean just look at a pic of Tariq Nasheed and assume how he even found out about the hand sign. probably in some sort of fucking meeting right? its not natural so obv hes not gonna understand it properly because first of all his initialexposure to it, as a grown ass adult, is in the context of a mass shooting and secondly hand signs in of themself are used all the time to spread hatred and violence which we see in gang signs. to them, this is the internet’s hand sign for the far right

seeing things like this have started to make me worried, not the shooting as much as the reactions after it (not trying to say that this wasn't horrific). I've mostly ignored this news, seeing a couple of articles here and there. I can't remember exactly but i'm pretty sure this guy's general motive was to cause confusion and stir up more violence and hate right?

It seems like that plan is working very well and that things like this are only going to get more effective with misinformation, social media and the shit that some of these groups do to try and brainwash susceptible people on the internet. Whether it's Islamic radicalization or (idk what to call this: alt-right?, white nationalist?) radicalization and whatever other social factors at work, its a problem that goes deeper than gun control and I really hope that it starts getting addressed soon
