I've seen the idea tossed around a fair bit, and I was wondering what the main benefits of a third game might bring?
There were Source 2 files for TF2 so whatever little interest they had it's long gone. TF3 would mean we might actually be able to make money from sinking 10k hours in this game
A sticky launcher that functions properly would be pretty cool
feel like it would be shit if its not just a graphical/performance/weapon improvement and thats it. esp with how they make the game worse as the updates go by with tf2 itself
its just theres been a recent trend of any multiplayer game coming out having trillion dollar tournaments is why it would be advantageous

#7 sounds like a meme but the most crucial thing about a re-release is the reemergence into the market. this would align interest in the game on a global scale instead of the trickle over time that's happening now. of course to sustain that interest it would be in valve's best interest to protect their investment and actively develop the game. lastly it would just be nice to be on a more modern engine with optimizations.
Optimization. I might even hit 20fps.
For real though, we've heard for years how TF2 is a ballache of a game to work on because the base code is so messy after so many people working on it for so long, but making TF3, or even just porting TF2 over to source 2, would be the perfect opportunity to sort it out so valve developers actually want to work on it

so yeah that would be awesome for -us- but what reasons does valve have for doing so? I don't see it worth their time in the current climate unless they pull TFBR out of their ass.
valve doesnt really have a reason
thats why theyre not doing it
thats why theyre not doing it
but they should do it because they love us :D :D :D
i fear that if valve made a tf3 everything i love about the movement in this game would vanish
a fresh start on all the hats and items sounds nice assuming they go back to the regular updates of the early days
imagine how much more popular this game would be if they added anime girls into it
I dont care as long as physics and movement is similar; i reckon most people feel the same way. ideally the graphics meet or exceed industry standard for peak casual retention.

There was no 'reason' to make team fortress 2 in the first place, either.

the engine with this art style, all they gotta do is let us unlock the picmap and we get really nice textures. They can always go back and work on models, fix the code, cosmetic glitches, bugs, exploits. They can balance and add more weapons, they do whatever they want really.
the big thing is the folks using third party programs to cheat at this game. thats the problem. we dont need a new game, we need to handle the cheaters.

the intelligibility of the code might go from spaghetti to some reasonably well assembled lasagna
I think if anything the dev team might task themselves with porting the core game (minus replay features, coaching bloatware etc.) over to see what performance might look like. Gauge if the project is worth doing. They've been on a series of moves that involve buying up games with impressive technology that shaves years off their goals like Boneworks for HL:A. With that said, a pro-mod might be worth talking about on this side of the fence. I'd love to see another Team Fortress iteration.

just play tf2 classic if you want a promod

Best u can hope for is someone makes a game loosely based on 6es TF2 that retains a lot of the mechanics as a standalone game with matchmaking. If it was marketed as its own new thing instead of just a promod might garner a fair bit of attention as there's not many games it would be in direct competition with.
Valve might make a TF3 at some point but probably not before 2030
