Positive side of the code leak?

I wanted to open some discussion regarding the positive aspect of having TF2's source code at the community's reach to start wondering about what new ways of experimenting with it in ways that could either improve, benefit or enhance our game and its gamemodes there are now, from the hands of devoted coders that could make really cool things with it.

Perhaps it could not be code related but we could talk about a new era of a relationship with Valve, for example. What I just proposed is an example of my ideas from the leak situation.

Maybe there is something worth talking about, maybe it's not a big deal. But I thought it'd be cool to read some of the community's ideas and thoughts on this.

Since some weeks ago there was a pretty interesting TF3 thread, I was about to link that idea here somehow but didn't want it to be that clickbaity. That doesn't mean reading something related to the possible making of a new community-versioned TF2 wouldn't be interesting.

most content from updates from 5 years on are already 90% from the community so i really don't think anything will change

If the goal is to make public mods or plugins (that are meant to last) to improve the game then it probably isn't a good idea to use the leaked code. I'm sure it has interesting and useful information, but it isn't licensed to "the community" and projects take a risk of being hurt/destroyed by legal problems with Valve by using this code.

It is exactly the same as making plugins normally but finding what you want to change is quicker, if valve are okay with plugins normally (surf, jump, 100% crits etc.) they will be fine with this

"using" in this case mostly means reading, not copying
and even then, they would not give a shit
